A famous oceanographer’s DS

Here it is, a well worn Rolex Deepsea Mk1 belonging to a famous oceanographer. He wears it when filming/photographing marine life. It is my first time handling this watch, and it is toolish and tough looking. Did not get to finish my interview with him to...

Mk1 in my humble is great unpretentious tool design dedicated for marine people.

Love original design and hopefully one day I own one ( once I get 662). Hope you enjoyed too many drinks too much! Enjoy my friend.

I went light

Last year it was binging on whiskeys. I recalled being very tipsy. This year it was just 2 small glasses of whisky and a glass of red wine. Had to drive home and there are many road blocks here this season.

I could be wrong ...

but it doesn’t look like a mk 1 dial to me. In any case, would love to know more about the interview! 😊

Also ...

flat “S” on mk1 vs rounded “S”, and elongated “E” on mk1!

Interesting analysis

Could this be an MkII instead? He told me it is first generation. Interestingly, this piece along with his other diving pieces were not bought.

He actually prefers this

To his James Cameron edition DS. Next round I will ask him to show me the JC version.

Yes, please!

Hello dear Cookies! It´s interesting to view such a big diving watch being used as it was intended for. It looks like a true diving tool with some signs of wear but well cared for anyway.

What surprises me is that I can see it still has some of the transparent stickers covering inside clasp and caseback. And you mention that he wears this watch while filming marine life so he actually dives with this watch. I usually wear my new watches wi...

Very interesting chat, yes

He told me and another gentleman, age is not a barrier to scuba diving. An older gentleman was previously a dive master, but stopped diving due to arthritis in his shoulder. He shared with us that Her Lady Deepness (the famous Rolex sponsored diving lady ...

Thank you for sharing this dear Cookies. Agree that age is not a barrier. Jacques Cousteau also dived till an advanced age. Main thing is the physical condition of each individual.

In my personal case (I´m 74 years old now) my last dive was several years ago and I didn´t felt very comfortable as I do not practice sports and my job requires to be seated many hours at my desk with computer. I´m completely out of training and when I ha...

Thanks for the reply Abel

Yes, she did 3 trips to Galapagos according to close sources, to dive. They were shocked that she could still dive at 90 years old. Age is not the barrier. With age comes wisdom and hindsight, and more efficient ways to do things that the younger generati...

Thank you so much for your clarification.

To dive at near 90 is truly an awesome feat. Agree with you that age is not a barrier but anyway the life and achievements of Dr Earle are outstanding. Thank you so much for your kind good wishes for the new year. All the best for you and your beloved Coo...

I was stunned when I saw this

At first I thought he was wearing the new titanium version. It was so well worn that the steel doesn’t shimmer anymore.

Yes S F

Could be a month. He is flying off to film some tropical marine area soon.

My 126660 came with many stickers in tact.

I left the case back sticker on it, will probably never come off as it is just a desk diver. Holes in my eardrums prevent me from diving. Looking forward to your full report!

Wow you got one

I dont know whether it is just me but all that wear on that DS just makes it even more amazing and beautiful!

It is so worn out

 By: Cookies : December 30th, 2022-01:14
It doesn’t shimmer anymore. Looks more like a titanium piece from 3m distance.

It must be

I am dreaming of one now. I had a chance to buy a used one, at 19k AUD, 2 years ago. Instead I took the Airking, which I also like. I should have gotten both. Now…it is really out of my reach. One day, maybe this, or the red seadweller will be awesome. I ...

Coming soon, I arranged to meet him early in January. We will go for lunch and I will take a picture of an Omega SM with his Rolex tool. I want a Rolex tool so badly now.

Nice looking forward
