Perhaps the poster was referring to the earlier white dial ref. 114300 (39mm), which had 'single' hour markers throughout the dial.

That said, the dial shown - with double hour markers at 3, 6 and 9 - is correct for the white dial OP ref 116000. Which is also already discontinued.

The current Rolex OP references (whether the 41mm ref 124300, or the 36mm ref 126000) indeed do not include a model with a plain white dial (as far as I'm aware).

Rolex discontinued models

 By: johnhiggins1960 : April 3rd, 2022-13:21
I hope you’re having a good Sunday. Any thoughts on the discontinued colourful Rolex OPs? It’s played straight into the hands of the flippers, the price on chrono24 for the discontinued models is ridiculous. I managed to pick this up from my AD back in 20...

👍

 By: FabR : April 3rd, 2022-14:14

I think all these colorful OP are very cool and trendy which I like imho.

 By: Motty : April 3rd, 2022-13:45
I think the secondary market is crazy as it is, especially anything that youngsters will think it’s cool

Indeed.

 By: johnhiggins1960 : April 3rd, 2022-14:22
They are trendy and on point. The watch wears really well, very comfortable and light. It’s a shame they’ve discontinued them.

Correct and I would of bought it, if i would be able to get from a AD, but they are so difficult and now impossible

 By: Motty : April 3rd, 2022-14:25
They also look under the radar and people won’t know it’s a Rolex

I’ve not seen the green one.

 By: johnhiggins1960 : April 3rd, 2022-14:39
My wife has the turquoise one in 31mm, It’s rather charming in that size. I don’t get the hype on the turquoise dial. How do you like the green one? It must be more versatile then the yellow one. The yellow one is good in casual settings but it standouts ...

Obviously very simple but in the end it’s an excellent daily watch…it’s been on my wrist since Christmas as it’s a special gift from my girlfriend👍In return she chose the black 34mm over the 31mm green (alas, the green 34mm doesn’t exist)…

 By: FabR : April 3rd, 2022-15:14
Needless to say, I’m sure that neither watch is easy to source (especially the 41mm), so I’m very grateful that it all happened in a couple of days (we asked two ADs in Italy that also carry the Patek license, which I’m sure helped ;-) Even my girlfriend ...

Nice photos!

Interesting, we actually got my wife’s 31mm in Italy! Casually strolling down the Ponte Vecchio and we saw it in the window at the Rolex AD Casseti. The good old days, when you could walk by a Rolex AD and see a watch you like….and purchase it!

Very true.

 By: johnhiggins1960 : April 3rd, 2022-15:54
But I feel like it’s taken a little bit of the joy out of it. I used to buy a watch when I wanted to mark a specific milestone in my life. I have a big work milestone towards the end of the month and I wanted to mark the day… unfortunately the current sup...

Exactly how I feel about it all.

 By: Poky : April 3rd, 2022-16:15
My sister and I wanted to buy a datejust for my nephew as his graduation present, no chance of it. Rolex was meant to be a durable functional watch. One could work very hard to purchase a Rolex to mark an achievement in life. No more. I don't believe in a...

I think your on to something!

 By: johnhiggins1960 : April 3rd, 2022-16:26
Rolex don’t benefit from the inflated secondary market, but I think the hype is fuelling general demand… which is good for their sales. Last night at dinner, someone who I’ve know for 15 years, starts talking to me about the watch market. In 15 years he’s...

I am thinking Omega Seamaster

 By: Poky : April 3rd, 2022-20:39
The problem is that he lives in Italy and only Rolex has the kudos there, so I have been told. My first proper watch was an Omega Seamaster which I bought myself. I am telling him my life story and how my love of watches started, kind of preparing him for...

Snap!

My first entry into watch collecting was a sea master! Great watch to start with, I remember being 25 at a work event and a senior partner said nice watch! Great starting piece, but I think due to social media Rolex is what youngsters desire!!

That is true, though as a good collector you apparently still have access to certain models…and with so much demand today, this is honestly excellent!😄 For instance, the watches I like the most are certain Patek limited editions…

 By: FabR : April 3rd, 2022-16:23
…and I have no problem to admit I enjoy the “courtship” aspect as well — since if and when you get selected for a watch (or anything else) you love, the joy is even greater!😄 I agree watch collecting has become a different/more exclusive sport than it was...

Thanks!

I’m hoping the AD pulls through on a 6119R. If not I was thinking to visit the Lange AD. Any recommendations on a dress watch, around the same budget £25-£27k?

A 6119 would be an exquisite Patek!👍I really can’t speak for Lange (which of course is a totally legitimate option), but a second (or first??) Patek model in that price range could be a 5738R, the supremely classy Golden Ellipse in the current catalog..

 By: FabR : April 3rd, 2022-16:53
I’m pretty sure it’s actually easier to source than a 6119, and I find its elegance just unbeatable!😍 Here are a few pictures that I just found, taken at an AD here in the US: ...

This is Nice!

 By: johnhiggins1960 : April 3rd, 2022-21:16
The shape is nice, I’ll see what we manage to get. Problem is I have my heart set on the 6119R, hoping it all works outs This wouldn’t be my first Patek, slowly I’ve managed to collect a few. I don’t have a brown strap dress watch with a white face, not s...

Another white-dial, dressy option that comes to mind, which is *very* underrated by I always loved, is a 5396R-011...we are in a different price range (it's an annual calendar, and the low $30k of a 6119 was its MSRP when I bought it 11 years ago! ;-))

 By: FabR : April 3rd, 2022-22:01
It's amazing how many other iterations have been offered and discontinued within the 5396 line over the years, while this -011 is still in the catalog after over a decade! Its elegance is truly remarkable, on top of course of the AC complication that come...

5396R is lovely!

 By: johnhiggins1960 : April 4th, 2022-10:06
Just the price is a bit higher then I wanted to pay. I do really like the 5212, it’s meant to be very difficult to get. Fingers crossed!

I was the same and most of the Rolex I’ve bought have been in a similar vein, to mark something.

 By: Jay (Eire) : April 3rd, 2022-17:57
The last time I was able to do that without an inordinate amount of advance planning was the Hulk I bought in late 2016 and had my dealer keep it in the safe for a few months and date the papers as of a certain date. That is now impossible. But things cha...

Maybe those days will come back?

 By: johnhiggins1960 : April 3rd, 2022-21:40
I remember summer 2020 my AD had a platinum Daytona available… I remember saying ah next year!

Happy to have one, and perhaps we will see a rotation of dial colours over the years to come. Who knows.

 By: Jay (Eire) : April 3rd, 2022-17:53
I wear the OP36, it’s the perfect size for me. Having the Turquoise, the only other potentially interesting dial is the Green but I’m not sure I like it.

In the past you could have your dial changed during the service to any colour

 By: Poky : April 3rd, 2022-14:23
Can you not do that anymore? For example you could own a black dial model but ask Rolex to change it to a pink, is that no longer the case? At the end of the day it is only the dial that has a different colour, everything else is the same.

None are as cool as the discontinued white dial…

 By: oyster case : April 3rd, 2022-17:36
Of course, the white doesn’t have that show off factor. But, with white you can just wear it with some Ralph Lauren, it’s where Rolex got the colour palet from after all. ...

The hour markers are incorrect.

Not sure what you mean?

Not sure what the 39mm has to do with his statement that my watch is incorrect…

 By: oyster case : April 4th, 2022-15:31
The 39/36/34mm 11 series OPs all had the same, not plain, white dial with different hour markers for each. This special white dial was used for less than two years and was exclusive, before and since, to them. All three were discontinued in 2020.

 By: Revilo : April 4th, 2022-16:52
Yes, my apologies, I did not realize that a double baton version in white existed previously. This makes yours very special indeed. Thank you and sorry for the late response!

How so?

Please see my response and apology above! Sometimes we learn something new every day! Best regards.

Of course, very true and apology accepted 🙂🙏

Perhaps I’m guilty of being a little over sensitive at times 🙂

White is nice! Thanks for sharing
