you let it soak in a bowl of any gentle dishwashing soap for about 30 minutes.  I use Dawn.  Then rinse with water and wipe with a handkerchief.  The transformation is pretty good.  I know servicing the movement is another matter completely.

A 1680 belonging to my buddy's uncle who is the original owner. Has had it 47 years and has decided just now to take it in for only its 2nd ever service... still ticking by the way. Of course I highly recommend for him to have the watch heavily polished a...

Enough to make a clone of the wearer ๐Ÿ˜‰

And if you look again...

There is plenty of "DNA" caked on the outside as well๐Ÿคข

It's such a relief to read that it is in good hands. Do not even get it close to a Rolex AD unless you want to take it deep underwater again. But, even in such circumstance, the obvious replacement of most original parts is not worth transforming the watc...

The movement needs work

If it were me, I wouldn't even touch the plexi... looks great that way IMO. The low afternoon light exaggerates the appearance of the scratches, in general it doesnt look as severe. In either case I like the rugged appearance.

Agreed!

Best would be to disassemble and ultra-sonically clean the case parts
