350,000 CHF for the ceramic black bay is insane.
Absolutely bonkers. Yes, it is for charity. So how much can one claim as a tax deduction? One must subtract the "retail" value of the item obtained in charity auctions. What is the retail value of this watch? If the normal black bay on strap with same movement costs US$3400.00, how much of a premium does one add for ceramic case with sapphire back? I'll be generous and give a new retail value of $5000.00.
At today's exchange rate, CHF350,000=US$350,945.00!
Do you think the winning bidder is claiming about a US$346,000.00 tax deduction? Do tax deductions work the same way in Europe?
Did the winning bidder do well with his money? I think not, and I highly doubt anyone else would give him/her CHF350,000 to break even should he/she ever decide to sell it...
But maybe it is a better deal than paying 31 million CHF for that Patek monstrosity
