I had a similar dilemma and passed. But regret it now for different reasons

Oct 27, 2020,08:16 AM

When it first came out, an AD offered me a root beer GMT, which is not my taste and I passed. A year later, they called and offered me a SS Pepsi GMT (jubilee bracelet). Again, I passed. I told her that I was extremely grateful for the offer, but it was not a watch I was interested in. Surely she must have clients that would enjoy the watch much more than I would. I have not heard from them since (despite being on a waitlist for others that I do want). I suspect I may have soured my standing with this AD as a result. If so, I do regret not buying and flipping if just to maintain my standing with them. But, alas, that is not my style. I would rather think those watches went to someone that will truly enjoy them.

Here's an article on Fratello Watches that might be worthy of a discussion: www.fratellowatches.com Photo: Fratello Watches ...

So, is that #4 answer? 😉 [nt]

Especially in Paris. I bet all the tourists have got to them anyways. Well... maybe not during Cornavirus. But generally visits to Rolex stores in major cities are a waste of time.

I did it ones

The lady do not have any emotions when i ask to show me a Millgaus. Turning and went to IWC, the people were interested and explained how the watches made and work.

This made me think

of my Deepsea purchase a few months back. I went to a local jeweler who is an AD for IWC and Rolex. I had pretty much given up on looking for items with Rolex ADs just because it seemed like a waste well I was in a local shop here looking for a particular...

+1 my thoughts exactly [nt]

Perhaps its because I suddenly belong to the old school here in the forum...

But I have never, never, ever purchased a watch as an investment nor could I ever imagine myself doing so. And yes, I do care about making money. That’s how I make a living and pay for my hobby. It is simply against my “religion” as a watch collector. I s...

Outside of cash, stocks, bonds, fiat and crypto.. Might as well throw in limited Ferraris at retail or the like.

You did the right thing. And if the AD is disappointed by your behavior...

they just grow themselves a clientele of flippers. Which is exactly what they don’t want and what will blow up in their faces whenever the tide should turn. I applaud your declining a hot piece, it shows your respect towards people who (hopefully) have a ...

Thanks for the kind words.

I hope I am wrong and they come through on the other piece I am waiting for. If not, there are always other dealers and other watches.

I'm not attracted to SS sports watches but I can understand why one would

I prefer elegant dress watches on a leather strap. ...

Depends on the end game perhaps. ADs can get weird.

When the Skydweller was released I got offered the blue one by an AD that I had only done a little business with. I was concerned about the size for a watch with a fluted bezel. I passed. About a year later got treated to "I offered you a blue Skydweller ...

I actually have in my possession a GMT BLNR that a friend purchased for his son

He had it mailed to me from the AD as he was traveling at the time it came in. As the prices have gotten crazy he decided it’s too expensive of a watch for his 17 year old son to own and wear. He doesn’t want the watch, and offered it to me at retail. I a...

One Rolex is enough for me.

There are a lot of people who would buy it even if they didn't want it...

 By: patrick_y : October 27th, 2020-10:44
But here on WatchProSite, many of our members would buy a stainless steel Rolex Sport model even if they didn't plan on wearing it, however many wouldn't admit to such behavior since it would cast them in a negative spotlight.

With the values of these Rolex steel professional models now faltering...

 By: patrick_y : October 27th, 2020-10:48
With the value of these steel Rolex watches now faltering, maybe less people will buy something they don't want. Since they know it's not easy to resell.

No

If i want a reference, i want that reference. Buying above retail is not a problem if i want a watch so badly. Never did this, but for a 116010LV it wil be my first time. I said to a member i send him a PM when i’ve bought my first Hublot, so it is under ...

Always the same story...

Personably I don’t care about what others peoples do or think (except my family and friends). So if some have a strange idea like buying a watch they don’t like, I don’t care. It’s just not my way of being. Watches are for me things that I like to discove...
