I always wore it under a shirt and cuffs so that it only saw daylight when I chose to extend my wrist. The few times I wore it on holiday it attracted too much attention from strangers.

Today my choices are brands and models that most would not recognise and I am much less self-conscious when out and about.

Rolex Day Date question…

By: One day just one watch : August 2nd, 2021-12:21
Ever since I saw a yellowgold Rolex Day Date 36 mm with a white dial with Roman numerals for the first time over 30 years ago, it has become a sort of grail watch for me. Last September Rolex added the white dial with Roman numerals to their catalogue for...

That's a tough question

 By: rgabrielsoto : August 2nd, 2021-13:15
I recently purchased the blue dial YM and of course, prior to buying I went on a hunt online to read about it as much as I could. Across forums I saw a handful of people regret selling their YMs often saying it was their most comfortable watch and had som...

Thanks for your perspective!

And it is spot on what you say about the YM being very comfy on the wrist, especially compared to the GMT. And your suggestion of looking at pre owned I will surely take into consideration. So thank you very much!

How much did they offer for the GMT, I would figure you could easily sell it for 16-17k market price?

They offered 20% less than the best market price you mentioned…

They have to make money too, that’s why it didn’t work unfortunately…

Your best option is selling it yourself but I would wait a little bit and see what the market does. I doubt it goes down. Perhaps contact known grey dealers if they can source you a new DD and see what's possible when you trade it in. Do they still discou...

Amazing what 5 years does to the market. Easy 5-8k discounts are completely gone on the DD.

I have two comments to confuse the situation...

First, I've regretted selling every watch I've ever sold. Second, I've regretted passing on every dream watch I was ever offered.

Wooow, that really does confuse the situation!!!

But thanks for your reply, because i recognize regretting having sold some watches (thankfully not all). Now i have to figure out whether i will regret letting the opportunity to buy the DD go by…i think because the DD is not as hard to get it will be ok....

Since you can wait for the DD, I would wait for the right time to pull the trigger

 By: agyzace : August 2nd, 2021-15:14
That is what I would do. Not necessarily the best approach, but hey

Why did you sell it if I may ask? 30 years is a long time.

I always wore it under a shirt and cuffs so that it only saw daylight when I chose to extend my wrist. The few times I wore it on holiday it attracted too much attention from strangers.

Oeh, what you describe about attracting too much

By: One day just one watch : August 2nd, 2021-20:05
attention did it for me. That’s exactly one of my fears that will happen and spoil the fun of owning or even wearing a DD. Come to think of it, two years ago I almost got mugged wearing a GMT Pepsi in Amsterdam and that made me decide to change it for a Y...

Beautiful!!!!

And I have the same weak spot for white dials as well…

Thats a tough choice and also a very personal one imho .

 By: Watchonthewrists : August 2nd, 2021-18:43
If the two watches still put a smile on your face then keep them , if not and you know the DD will then i would say let them go to another good home

That’s exactly what happened today, when the

dealer was checking the Yachtmaster and saying it looked really nice I couldn’t help but agreeing with him that indeed that YM looks really nice (so why in the hell would I want to sell it😬) so the doubt started right there and then…

Can you see this DD in your everyday?

 By: Jay (Eire) : August 2nd, 2021-18:51
It’s clear you’ve listed after it, so that’s the not the question. So I’m asking a more practical one, will you or can you wear it day to day? I’m assuming the YM and the GMT are easily worn in your daily situations. For me, as much as I loved the coloure...

Good question Jay and to be honest I don’t think

By: One day just one watch : August 2nd, 2021-19:32
I will wear the DD every day. Actually it is a watch that really makes you consider where you ‘can’ wear it and where not (certain neighbourhoods, occasions or in certain meetings with clients I could not see myself wearing it). It’s a watch that attracts...

When it’s not something to be worn regularly the is it worth letting the YM go for it?

 By: Jay (Eire) : August 3rd, 2021-00:20
Assuming the YM is a watch you do wear regularly and enjoy doing so.

Well that does it, no more DD on my list!

Like you said it turned from a used car dealers watch to a muggers target together with all the other responses has made me decide against buying the full yellowgold DD. I was hoping I could pull it off not looking like a used car dealer, with my grey hai...
