Nothing to look at here!
By: sham1 : September 12th, 2019-04:18
I have been in London to attend a Patek event and came across a watch that caught my eye from a brand that would not normally catch my eye. I must confess I have never been a great fan of Rolex partly because I have been partial to dress watches with leat...
Many thanks my friend!
By: sham1 : September 12th, 2019-04:43
I am afraid I am the black sheep of the family as none of of my family members like watches so I am financially safe to spoil only myself! This will probably be the only Rolex I shall ever own but such is its allure that I feel it can be worn on all occas...
Lucky you 😉

Its def a daily beater . Enjoy it to the max my friend
My only bracelet watch
By: sham1 : September 12th, 2019-10:14
and I am going to enjoy it especially in the humid weather of Malaysia!
I love the 40mm sports Rolex watches
By: sham1 : September 12th, 2019-04:52
but they are all too large on my wrist. The 37mm Yachtmaster is probably the closest thing to a good fit for me but I am not too keen on the oyster bracelet. And yes, I agree that the white gold bezel is a nice touch. Thank you Uncle Chico
Thanks Nico!

I still can't believe it has happened. There was a better chance of me buying almost any other brand but Rolex! But in my mind I had a picture of the perfect Rolex. This was it!
Correction!
By: sham1 : September 12th, 2019-05:04
If luck was on my side, this will be the only one!!!
Believe it or not but
By: sham1 : September 12th, 2019-05:12
I have had to sell my 3 month old Grand Seiko to help finance this purchase. This is the only snag of being retired otherwise known as unemployed where when one watch enters, another has to be sacrificed!
“One in, one out”- a nice strategy but hasn’t worked for me
By: cazalea : September 12th, 2019-06:09
I’m retired but haven’t developed the discipline to say NO, so I totally avoid going to dealers! Of course if one must work RWS watches into the equation, then one must have a long-term view ... 😉 Cazalea
Thank you!
By: sham1 : September 12th, 2019-06:23
Although it is destined for all types of activities, I cannot imagine myself playing squash or swimming with it on! I guess I am just too careful with these precious possession or I just not as brave as others!
That is most impressive!
By: sham1 : September 12th, 2019-07:09
I like the thought that the watch does not require a service after 13 years. I guess that is why Rolex can comfortably offer a five year guarantee on all their new watches. Thanks for the encouragement!
IMHO
By: watch-er : September 12th, 2019-06:13
this watch is far superior to any Patek sports offerings. Patek is the absolute best for PM complications and Calatravas. It is actually a good thing TS appreciates the heritage of the company. This watch is sharp, robust and really swim proof (without th...
To be honest
By: sham1 : September 12th, 2019-06:31
when I looked at the Rolex website, I only saw the black dial and had not realised that a silver dial was also available. Hence, when I passed the Roles AD, I had to take a double take and ask all sorts of ignorant questions. Would you know when this silv...
Excellent
By: Jurry : September 12th, 2019-07:24
You’ve made an excellent choice. This watch may n t have the grand dame allure of a Patek, nor the classy history of VC but it’s a watch 5hat will become your friend for many decades to come. A watch that 20 years from now will still bring a smile to your...
That is indeed a huge compliment to the Rolex!
By: sham1 : September 12th, 2019-08:18
Thank you! Any watch that can make its owner smile after 20 years of ownership is a watch worth every penny! The attractiveness of this watch I believe is because it is not a Patek or VC!
Thank you for saying so Alberti!
By: sham1 : September 12th, 2019-08:22
I am not sure if it is sporty at all but it is without doubt the most sporty watch I have!
Ha! Ha!
By: sham1 : September 12th, 2019-08:54
I think this watch is so versatile that it can be worn in every scenario!
Thank you for your kind comments Moritz!
By: sham1 : September 12th, 2019-08:25
I look forward to this watch surviving many others in my small collection. I now understand why when asked what was his favourite watch brand, Roger Smith replied "Rolex'!
That’s a beautiful choice, my friend
By: rnaden : September 12th, 2019-08:04
somehow, I sort of guessed it would be something like this. Looking forward to seeing it on your wrist soon
Thanks Richard!
By: sham1 : September 12th, 2019-08:26
It had to be something as nice as this for me to sacrifice the SBW231 which I have been very happy with. What is the world coming to??!! You buying Pateks, me buying Grand Seiko and Rolex!!!
NICE LOOKING
By: vicunaman1 : September 12th, 2019-08:09
Very wearable/serviceable watch. Enjoy it!!!! It looks nice on your wrist.
Thank you for your generous comments.
By: sham1 : September 12th, 2019-08:29
For me when buying a watch, how it fits on the wrist triumphs above all. So when I was told that the lovely Rolex Datejust on display was 36mm, my eyes lit up like a boy in a toy shop! What am I saying?! It was a toy shop!!!
Good looking classic....
By: Clueless_Collector : September 12th, 2019-08:27
plus VAT and exchange rate in your favor, best way to get luxury items 👍🏻 Congratulations.
Yes I hope to get my VAT back
By: sham1 : September 12th, 2019-08:33
but the exchange rate had no effect on me since I still do not have a Malaysian credit card, only a couple in pounds sterling! It is quite interesting the number of stainless steel Rolex available in the UK compared to Malaysia where not a single Rolex AD...
Congrats on a classic

I suspect we have about the same wrist size. The Sub I have now is a tad too large at 40mm. I also hear u regarding your earlier comments re retired/unemployed (although I suspect you are simply being modest here). Perhaps we can catch up during the upcom...
Modesty I promise you is not my middle name! :-)

I hope to currently be in Singapore on Sunday 29 September and am booked for the noon entrance to the exhibition. Would love to meet up even if it is for a short while. I am flying in for the day. Your hotels are beyond my Malaysian budget Jim!

Please do!

PM me and give a little notice please so I can leave the city (just kidding!)
Gorgeous and fits you perfectly
By: Prodyutb : September 12th, 2019-20:51
The white dial really matches the WG fluted bezel very nicely, so overall the face of the watch looks so uniform. Great buy and I agree this is one Rolex that could still remain a daily ‘go to’ wear. Wear it in good health for ever!
Absolutely!
By: mrds : September 14th, 2019-22:48
It is these 2 qualities where Rolex is in a league of its own.
This explains why
By: sham1 : September 14th, 2019-23:01
the resale value of Rolex is so strong even compared with Patek. Theoretically any watch fully machine made with an annual production of over a million has no right to demand such an amazing resale value but this has a knock on effect as it makes buying a...
Looks nice on you my friend
By: jonnlee5711 : September 13th, 2019-23:17
Knowing your preference for dress watches, this can work in any setting and must be one of the most versatile piece that Rolex makes in my view. Build quality and movement robustness doesn’t hurt either.. looking forward to your views on the nautilus and ...
Ha! Ha! Ha!
By: sham1 : September 14th, 2019-07:32
That won't happen for awhile until Patek decide I am worthy of the Nautilus which hopefully will happen within the next 18 months. Thank you for your kind comments! On a separate note, will you be going to Singapore for you know what??!!
Sorry for the late reply
By: jonnlee5711 : September 17th, 2019-21:34
I have yet to confirm when I can make the trip but most likely I would aim for the second weekend 5 Oct. You planning to be there the first weekend?
Yes on Sep 29.
By: sham1 : September 17th, 2019-23:10
That is just in case some of the limited editions win me over!
Hey sham, biggest congrats from me for your aquisition.
By: cayenne1200 : September 22nd, 2019-12:14
The Datejust 36 mm is a very basic but wonderful companion for your wrist. Classic Qyster design, lovely silver dial and the wg bezel are making it a great easy wearing piece. And the Jubilee bracelet is making it even more comfy and cool. I hope - no, I ...
You could not be more right, thank you!
By: sham1 : September 22nd, 2019-13:04
I have been giving the datejust total wrist time over the past 5 days!! To be honest as it is my first ever bracelet watch, the sight of a bracelet and a Rolex on my wrist is something that is quite foreign to me. But the watch is a winner and it feels so...
I think for me....
By: sham1 : September 22nd, 2019-23:50
one bracelet watch is more than enough. Friends of mine keep saying the look is so different on me (or maybe they are just being polite rather than telling me the watch looks crap on me?!!). I normally only wear leather strap dress watches so wearing a Ro...
Never say never...
By: cayenne1200 : September 23rd, 2019-05:24
I used to be a guy who would have never worn a dress watch on a strap. And look at me now! Many different Patek watches on strap (not all strictly dress watches) on my wrist.
Maybe just maybe
By: sham1 : September 23rd, 2019-07:00
moving to Patek dress watches could be construed as an upmarket move! No disrespect meant to Rolex. I am pretty sure this will be my last bracelet watch until the Patek 5711 which I am quite excited about. Due to limited funds and my watch budget for the ...
Congrats on the datejust!
By: jleno : September 22nd, 2019-19:21
Hard to do better for a daily wearer, and also great for when you want to keep your heavier artillery on reserve
Funny you said that
By: sham1 : September 22nd, 2019-19:59
because friends of mine for once are noticing my watch when I wear the datejust and try not to come too close for fear of damaging it whereas when I wear a Patek or my Lang & Heyne, no one really takes notice!!
Or boats!
By: sham1 : September 23rd, 2019-10:29
I think it might be something to do with size!
