Ever so often I'm pleasantly surprised by Rolex

The dial in flat light (realized later I should have taken a photo) looks to be a totally bland, ordinary blue. But get it out in the sun and this "linen dial" really comes alive. In the light I also came to appreciate the quality of the indexes and hands...

Beautiful [nt]

The elusive blue linen dial Datejust

Perhaps my favourite variation of all vintage Datejust models. And rare, too. Nice find.

Is this a Shantung dial?

I’ve read that the horizontal linen dials are actually called Shantung dials, made for the Asian market in the 70s and consisting of silk. Don’t know enough about this dial variation to be certain - if someone wants to chime in ...

Rolex has never been my wheelhouse

Which I guess is part of the reason why it can surprise me here and there. Hopefully someone can definitively answer that one for us🤞🏻

Starry dial or constellation dial, or even Milky Way dial! Very nice datejust Alex. Enjoy! René
