From my experience...

From my experience with the boutiques (at least the boutiques I have visited across various countries), its not a question of how long you wait, its a question of what else you buy.
They don't take any deposit. They don't have a 'wait list'. Instead, they call it a 'wish list'. Which is to me an indirect way of saying you may never get one! Chances improve once you purchase something, and chances improve significantly if it is a tourbillon piece!
With respect to retailers, it is even more challenging as I believe they do not get as many in demand pieces as boutiques. And they too prioritize their own top customers.
I always liked RM and AP, but their recent strategy to go towards boutique only has alienated me and made me go to other brands. At the boutique to start a relationship means to buy things you don't want to eventually get the things you want! Not for me, but fair play to the respective brands as it seems to work.
