distillery visits can be dangerous----

True story told me some years ago by Bill Samuels owner of Makers Mark in Kentucky, Scruffy Englishman - Bill's description - turned up one day and asked if he could take some photos. Bill agreed but warned him to take care not to lean over too far into the fermentation vessels - shown on the right in the photo here of the upstairs of the distillery - as though empty they might still have some fumes in them.

Realising some time later that the Englishman had not reappeared, a search party was sent out and found him motionless at the bottom of one of the vessels, about a 20 ft drop, clearly having been overcome by the fumes. Bill said his immediate thought was to get the body out - he feared the man was dead - and move it up the road to the Heaven Hill distillery!. Bill felt even worse when the Englishman eventually came round, and revealed he was Anthony Armstrong Jones, husband of the Queen's sister Princess Margaret!  Bill said he expected to be transported to the UK and locked up in the Tower of London!

However, a very apologetic AAJ insisted it was all his fault leaving a very relieved Bill.

Hope you've got some supplies to take home! Those casks make a great background for your watch too. Cheers JML

I can just smell the single malt whiskey in the air.
