Wild Kingdom, Again

Jun 15, 2019,17:06 PM

Hello guys (and ladies)

It's been awhile since I've been out in the garden, and my camera was crying for use... so I stepped out and caught a couple nice flowers on top of the neighbor's fence (my airspace).

It's not very difficult to take this kind of photo, though I must admit I am easy to please.

But then I heard a racket coming from our big rubber trees, and I pivoted to find the source. Can you see him? Or I should say THEM because there were at least a dozen wild parrots having 5 o'clock snack on the fruit in my tree. They are incredibly well camoflaged.

Once you do spot them, getting a focus is the next challenge. Notice his beak -- those black "lips" indicate more than a polite mouthful of food.

I left it pretty much to Sony's software and chance to get these sharp images - I'm shooting one frame at a time, the tree is swaying and the birds are hopping around.

Here we go - the "my mouth is full" shot

And here the "this is my best side" pose.

I hope you enjoyed this brief adventure.

After 5 minutes of curiousity on both sides of the camera, they all flew away, so I went back to the boring old flowers.

The two trumpets in the first shot look awesome, what a wonderful composition. The birds came out great, what was the distance and lens? Thanks, Wojo

The parrots were about 50 feet away

The camera indicates I was zoomed to about 200-220mm (600 mm on 35mm). Speed 1/250

Fantastic pics!

With that first shot the background is great... almost studio-ish. Good that you are back to the garden... Casey

They do come regularly, but not frequently

Let's say 10-15 times a year, perhaps. We get lots of irregular visitors: Here are some parrots without red heads, from a few years ago Tanager Red-headed woodpecker Kingfisher(?) up at the top of the hill, not in my yard Horned owl, in the rubber tree Ha...
