I guess though it opens the door to creative "international products" suppliers. There is a guy nearby who (still) provides international format DVD players, does NTSC-PAL conversions of videos, etc.
When we lived in England we couldn't get anything "international" though local suppliers, and we lived near a town full of expats. We had to bring stuff over from the states. But still, this is almost 2020, nearly 30 years after I was in the UK.
Do you suppose it's a concession to the Sony division that supplies the US? Or a cost-saving measure for the locals?
When it comes to owner and service manuals for automobiles, I know that Kia, Hyundai, Honda, Nissan and others compel the local importer division to pay for (indeed to do the work locally) translations into American English versions
