Mongolia Part Deux - Leica Q

Oct 13, 2018,10:28 AM

A follow up thread of my recent visit to Mongolia this time showcasing images shot on the Leica Q. The Q to me is a perfect walkabout shooting camera. One thing I really like about the Q is the way it paints colors which has that contrasty bite that gives the image the vibrancy that makes the images pop. Though some may find that 28mm to be a bit too wide but I find that the resolving power of the 28mm Summilux is so good that I can do extreme crops of the picture. As an example of the third picture in the series is a 100% crop of the second image and the details can still be seen in the crop image. The Leica Q has been around for about 3 years and though there are newer cameras out since, I am still constantly amazed by what this camera can do.

Here are the Leica Q images to share

A question for you. Have these images been processed in any way? I ask as I also own a Q, and I'm sometimes believing that I'm not getting the most out of the camera. It's possible that I'm just not utilizing the manual adjustments to the fullest.

Not much post processing on these.

One of the things is that on my Leica Q, I have a circular polariser filter almost permanently mounted on. What the polariser filter does is to give more vibrant and punch to the images for example, deepening the blue skies for more dramatic feel as well ...

Lovely pictures.

the life, culture, and nature of a part of a world totally unknown to most, including myself. Thank you for the beautiful, vibrant photos.

These are breathtaking

Thank you!! Do you have any more of anything you have photographed that you could post? Some of your pics were, to me, reminiscent of Ansell Adams.....incredible. Thanks again. Kind regards Antony

Wow Ansel Adams...much humbled and nowhere near the master.

Ansel was one of my earliest photographers which I draw alot of inspiration and lead me down the path of viewing composition. His books the Negative and the Print were my bedside bibles. Here are some more ...

Just wonderful,

I will probably buy a Q, but I am sure that that alone will only help a tiny bit. Could you arrange to implant your compositional insight into my brain? I'd be forever grateful. Thank you Antony

Wow! Love the big sky.

The Leica Q (24MP full-frame, fixed 28mm F1.7 ASPH) seems to be a fine 'walkabout' camera and from what you have shown, the results can be cropped to extreme. I find that the same to be true of the Fuji X Series where the [color] rendering is somewhat dif...

Definitely a place to revisit

I will probably like to visit it during different seasons just to see how the landscapes changes and spend more time living among the locals

Amazing place and color

Mostly the light, I’m sure, but the Leica glass doesn’t hurt. Great shots also. The first one but also the boy with all the animals.

Fantastic pictures ...

Another fine series!

The Q with the 28mm works well in this environment with fast focusing as a bonus. Great landscapes and ideal for group shots like the ones in the Ger. Thanks for sharing. Keep them coming! fernando

Thanks cmlee, fernando [nt]

thank you for sharing. fantastic colours and the reportage... great capture. Did you have any issues with battery life?

The cold weather does tend to drain batteries faster

I had 4 batteries with me and two power banks which help me charged up the batteries during my trip

Incredible and thank you for sharing

Beautifully captured in such an exotic location. Very good output from the Leica Q and your skills - thanks.

Again awesome photos

You really master your gears. Do you find sometimes Q give you reddish on skin tone as I do notice some friends shots (I don't own one) Cheers,

Thanks Quan

So far I am ok with my Q for skin tones.

Beautiful photos...

I'm primarily a black and white film shooter (Leica M-A, M4) but have been thinking about adding a Q as well. Hoping that Leica does a 35mm version at some point as I'm not sure I could live exclusively with a 28.

You can crop in

 By: xplorer2 : October 18th, 2018-07:24
The resolution from the Q is so good that I do extreme crops all the time without worries. If you have a 35mm you cannot go wide but with 28mm I can always crop down. Take a look at my 3rd image. It is a 100% crop from the second image.

That is impressive...

But I guess I'm old school and prefer to frame my pictures in-camera rather than during PP. That said, the Q is a beautiful camera and pretty hard to resist. Also keeping my eye on the Zeiss ZX1 to see what it's priced at when it launches and then I'll de...
