Early March 2011... a few from the archives.

 By: cshimokita : May 19th, 2020-06:08
I had just returned from Hiroshima when events on Friday, 11-March-2011 soon overshadowed everything happening at that time. 東日本大震災 or the Great East Japan Earthquake at 9.0–9.1 (M w ) was the most powerful earthquake ever recorded in Japan, and the fourt...

You doing tours? LOL. My wife keeps talking about going there and at least getting some Kobe beef in Kobe.

Sticking close to home at the moment...

Tokyo is still in lockdown... but looking forward to the next tour... It would be nice to visit almost any restaurant ; ) Casey

I do really really really miss the restaurant scene.

No more crowded restaurants for the time being anyways because of social distancing.

Such great pictures, Casey!

Hiroshima is a beautiful city. I've been there only once many years ago, but I still have very strong memories of the A-Dome. Thank you for bringing the memories back! Daniel

That last photo was taken at low tide...

I made the mistake of walking down the steps to the river edge... the steps are normally underwater and extremely slippery as I discovered ; ) My memories include a little misadventure along the Motoyasu River... Casey

...particularly the last one with the A Dome surrounded by the modern buildings. I think it shows, if I’m not being too sentimental and considering the current crisis, that however grave the situation, people carry on and rebuild and life goes on. Thanks ...

Beyond the buildings to the right...

is "Mazda Zoom-Zoom Stadium", home fo the Hiroshima Carp. Looking forward to the delayed start of the baseball season. That last photographs is one of my favorites from the trip in 2011... Casey

That last photo was planned out...

the only thing I would consider doing differently is check the tide schedule to shoot at high tide and possibly get stable reflections. Casey

It was a fun trip...

I was traveling with the Leica MP (film) and 50mm / 28mm / 15mm for the b&w… Canon 5D Mk II with 35mm / 85mm. the upper (number 3) was MP & 50mm while the color reflection (number 4) was 5D & 85mm so there was a mismatch in focal lengths... I never found ...

I'm looking at this now on my laptop and there's a separation with the two photos.

When I first saw this post it was on my iPhone and the two shots had no space between them. Blew my mind until I realized they were two shots. This was a nice set of photos.

Thanks for the follow-up post...

I love the second one — the individual and the umbrella to the right of the frame stand out, yet blend in perfectly.

Thank you orahu...

Good news about restarting with film... I happened to check out my local camera shop and found that they were not-open-but-open. Non-essential shops are still requested to remain closed here in Tokyo but my little mom & pop shop is half open. Only one of ...
