Leica Q2 Monochrom

Was just passing the local Leica boutique and happened to see the new Leica Q2 Monochrom and decided to ask if I could try and take a couple of test shots. I already have the normal Leica Q2 and am very happy with it and feel I will be quite safe trying out the Monochrom as I see no need to have a Q2 monochrom where I can just as well convert my color images from my beloved Q2 into B/W images. Sigh...the Q2 Monochrom in the hands was unexpected and the images at low light are quite something else altogether. I am familiar with the conversion of images from Q2 to B/W but the Monochrom can render images at ISO6400 that is so clean that I will never been able to get from a straight forward color to B/W conversion. The blacks are stunning dense and deep and shadow details amazing. Darn now I may have to write Santa a letter....

The below shots are all taken at ISO6400. The first shot unprocessed out of the Q2 Monochrom

Second shot processed to bring back up the shadow details as I wanted to test how much details can still be pull out of the shadow areas.

Test shot at ISO6400

100% Full Crop of the image above at ISO6400. The shadow areas remain remarkably grain and noise free!! On my normal Q2, at ISO 6400 I will already be getting all sorts of noise and grain.

And with Leica's ELPRO close up adapter and macro mode it is totally addictive. Kent ...
