Dark wet days lead into night...
Feb 09, 2019,04:36 AM
Sometimes a day, a week, two weeks make all the difference. There was little snow in Aomori and the city of Hirosaki was awash with slush... on 岩木山 (Mount Iwaki - a 1,624 m stratovolcano) there was enough snow for night skiing, and after a late night pizza the city turned crisp & winterish.
On the other hand, today (9-Feb) it was -31°C in Hokkaido and snowing while there was also a light snow in central Tokyo. I am in Nagano for a couple of weeks where there is no snow (typical for this local area), but cold... -11°C at night and warming up to -2°C during the day... it's turning out to be an interesting winter... I am still looking for snow ; )

The Mount Iwaki photo was shot through a double glass window which created some point of light flaring near the edges of the image. Normally when shooting through a window I press the filter to the glass to reduce reflections... it was cloudy during my en...

Marvelously moody set . Could work immaculately well for a detective Philip Marlowe story setting . Cheers, Filip

I didn't get much sun during the trip but I think that I can find and post a lighter, brighter photo from that area ; ) One of the famous photographers from Aomori was 小島一郎 (Ichirō Kojima - 1924~1964)... in his very short career he published only one book...
Very nice moody set Casey.

At the moment my thinking runs along the lines of an extended stay (3-4 weeks) in Aomori with side trips to Hokkaido... I am drawn to the area south of Asahikawa, but the National Park north of that city is also very beautiful... From Aomori it's a easy s...

That first photo is the main street through the historical shopping area... department stores etc and runs from the train station to the castle park... about 30 minutes walk. I always buy and ship local apples back to friends in Tokyo... Aomori has the be...

It looks like a nice town for a winter visit (even with the slush ). I like the overall sunlight and shade areas - nicely balanced giving the photograph a specific "gray" mood. Was it the tri-x 400 that you used? I like this film and also the Ilford D 400...
W72... that film was Fujifilm Neopan 100

a b&w negative film that has since been discontinued... I have "a little" stock in the freezer ; ) I have been shooting TRI-X 400 this week in Nagano Prefecture and will see the results in a couple of weeks. I actually prefer ISO100 if I can find it... Fo...
