Trying to ascertain whether photos posted here show obvious differences in quality. One of these two photos was shot with a fairly old camera phone with a resolution of 12 MP and the other with a Leica M10 / 50 Summicron APO with 24MP. Is the difference o...

could hardly discern the two. I just don't have the eyes for this. I stared hard at my MacBook Air (Gen1) screen at both photographs. It would help if both photos are taken at the same spot/time. Same subject matter helps However, after going to and fro f... 

Compression on loading is the second factor. I am with Echi on [not] picking one over the other... It's a challenge since the subject matter is so different... and I don't say which one is the better image. So with some hesitation and just for fun I pick ... 

...it's like on the video forums where posters show YouTube comparisons of televisions shot with a camera, uploaded, compressed, sent over wifi, displayed on who-knows-what uncalibrated computer screen. Kind of funny really. But I will play along. I origi... 

I base this on the color rendering and Clean depth of field in the first image. The wider open the shot the easier it is to tell and neither of these a shot wide open.

But a 12MP phone cam can be pretty amazing too under the right condition. I am guessing the first pic was taken by the phone cam based on "feel"

Yes, I admit it's not a fair comparison as ideally it would be a side by side image under exacting conditions. However, I didn't set out to do a comparison test and just randomly chose two photos to see whether the difference is obvious once it is posted....

NO—well, i should not say that… FEW phones could begin to compete. I am aware that compression wrecks havoc with photos on the Internet—it does with music, too—so your question has merit. But still… all those lines (not to mention the clarity of the refle...
