His expression is arresting . The choice of black & white works wonderfully well here. Cheers, Filip

Love this...

...I always take a lot of shots of the carnival at the county fair when it rolls into town in June. There is so much gaudy color so it's very interesting to see B&W.

Yeah I like the idea of eliminating the obvious

Like a cardinal. Everyone knows and expects it to be red. So eliminating the color makes you look at it differently

Yeah the angle. I was thinking about that.

I think you have to take either an absolute ton of photos OR you have to really train yourself to make composition a subconscious choice. I’ve done this to the point where the chip in my brain says this is a photo or this is not a photo and I cannot tell ...

“Composition a subconscious choice”

Lots of things to get us to this point. Looking at other photos, getting immersed in art or any sort of endeavor that affects taste, even philosophical discussions, i think they all make its way into how we photograph. I’m with you on the subconscious

I say this

Because in many cases I do not have time to consider how it will look. I already know how it will look

👍👍👍

Where do they get these guys... every "carny" has an interesting story...

The portrait tells the whole story... fun insight into a very different world. Brings back memories of mid-west state fairs from a distant past. Casey .

I've always thought following a real circus/midway around the country...
