However I fail to see any difference from the comparison. Missing railroad ties?

having an impact... Not in this photo, but a level horizon also makes a big difference (IMHO).

cropping an image to your heart's content but I do take under serious scrutiny actual image alterations. In this instance I find it acceptable although I do not feel it added anything in particular which would be lacking in an otherwise unaltered photo. C... 

One famously altered photo is John Filo's Pulitzer Prize winning image from the May 4, 1970 shootings at Kent State University in Ohio (USA). As Photographed (cropped version) Altered Photo (missing pole & cropped version) For any not familiar with the ab...  

The appropriate decision for that image was to remove the pole which was coincidentally awkwardly placed so to look as if it is sprouting out the top of the woman's head. Thanks for sharing! Cheers, Filip
