a few from Tokyo with one from overseas in colour just for fun... A short BTW moment: Many consider black to be a color, because you combine other pigments to create it on paper. But in a technical sense, black and white are not colors, they're shades. Vi...

Very interesting and informative post indeed.

and the intersection with Uchibori-Dori at one of the gates to Edo Castle (the Imperial Palace). The gate and area are named after the famed ninja and warrior, Hattori Hanzo (半蔵門 / Hanzōmon - literally Hanzo Gate). Casey

I always enjoy your posts, commentary, and results of your craft.

Very nice images — I think I like the moonrise the best — followed by the Ginza district and the Mikimoto storefront.

The Mikimoto photo is very heavily manipulated in post processing...

the MIKIMOTO signage was 'moved' to align the "M" with the black line in the stone exterior. As was the Mount Fuji window display and finally the slight barrel distortion of the AI'ed Nikkor-H 2.8cm f/3.5 was removed. I did the "correction" on a dare from...

Thanks fernando...

using a tripod while standing on the divider between the traffic lanes... the moon and clouds just aligned. Shot in Av mode with some minus compensation. Casey

Great photos

And you’re absolutely correct about black and white not being colors

so I have to go with the 'technical' explanation ; ) Casey

Wow...some great stuff here...

...really love the first one...a very Travolta-like strut with a strong shadow. And the moonrise shot is very cool...a single headlight in the sky : )

The drinking district of Shimokitazawa looks a little bleak in the daylight ; )

Not sure what that guy thought when I snapped that photo kneeling on the ground with a 28mm... Casey

My two favorite stories about drinking in Roppongi involved an expat from Scandinavia and one from Germany. Lost shoes... the guy went into a pub that required him to remove his shoes. Hours later he found himself walking the streets in his socks... never...

When we first got to Japan I joked with my wife that I could just swap shoes if I saw a nicer pair than mine. Most were nicer than mine but none of them would have fit : )

I hear you...

The largest most shoe shops carry is JP28 and I take a JP29-30 depending on the maker... so historically I buy on overseas trips... recently I find my size at the factory outlet shops as they carry foreign sizes in limited designs... Casey

I looked at the conversion chart...

...your feet are a bit larger than mine, but I have duck feet...very wide. I tried to buy a suit and finally found a jacket to fit in the 'sumo' section (I'm only a 42 regular) but the pants (I was a 34 at the time) had legs to fit high school girls...no ...

Thanks John... in that first shot I was literally in the guys shadow. Shimokita has always been a fun location to photograph. Lots of students, drinking places, and live theater. They had an old market that had survived since the 40s, finally gone now to ...
