I enjoy traveling around Japan, two of my favorite destinations are 東北地方 (the Tōhoku Region) and 北海道 (Hokkaidō), get off the beaten track a little and you find some special locations... This particular 'one photo post' is from 中部地方 (the Chūbu Region)... 平...

Your choice of shutter and stop was the exact one. Beautiful photo.

Thanks BCL...

I don't remember the exposure settings as I don't write down the details when shooting film. My friends who have seen this photo thought it was taken in autumn, but actually it was just last month in Nagano Prefecture. Normally with the Nikon F3P I shoot ...

Nico... It's funny how such a simple photo can create complex feelings...

I think it reflects the remote area where the photo was taken... Casey

That’s a very thought provoking photo....

I started shooting Tri-X (again) a few years ago. I bought two bricks of them. But so far, I only have a lot of developed and undeveloped rolls. I need to get some workflow but my time is limited. Do you scan or wet print to get this stunning result? Chri...

I have my film developed by Fujifilm Labs...

so the chemicals were by Fuji (Microfine ?). I scan with a Nikon Coolscan V ED and post process with an old copy of Canon DPP. I also have an Epson flatbed scanner which I have used in the past to good results, but I prefer the 35mm dedicated Nikon scanne...

Yes, missed getting the nikon

I used to shoot of slide film, it never got around to buying it. I believe it costs a small fortune secondhand. I did get an Epson, but I don’t think it is super user friendly. It would be fantastic if Nikon would remake the old V. Best Christian

Not much chance of Nikon reentering the scanning business ; )

I used Kodachrome ISO 64 for years, most of the time without a meter, just that paper guideline that came in the film box... it was remarkably accurate Nikon does make and sell a lens adapter whereby you can use your dSLR to capture film-to-digital... in ...

Nice capture [nt]

My camera has sat quietly since I got back from Nagano at the end of February... I need to get out again soon. Casey

Lovely photograph.

You have the knack, which I envy, of seeing something which is unremarkable and which I would probably not even notice and with your camera produce a very beautiful and striking picture. Thank you for showing it. Regards Kev.

Very kind of you Kev...

I think if you live long enough and work at it over time with an eye to develop an individual approach, you are bound to come up with something acceptable... I am pleased with the way this photo came out. ... and speaking of a long time... my first post o...

Looking forward to more from your recent travels... Casey

Dynamic, I guess, despite it being a picture of grass.

The deep black background adds drama. I hope you have a lot more Tri-X!

Thanks DruidPadj... ; )

Most likely I will find some Tri-X... but spring is upon us and I might make a swerve into full color for the blossoms. The forecast is for March in Tokyo... so a couple of weeks should tell the tale. Casey

Have you seen Lee Friedlander's B&W blossom photos?

 By: logan2z : March 11th, 2019-06:51
They're spectacular, I highly recommend his book 'Cherry Blossom Time in Japan". It may just make you consider shooting the blossoms using Tri-X.

hahaha.... I hear your... I have not see the Friedlander book...

 By: cshimokita : March 11th, 2019-07:07
In past years I have photographed blossoms in b&w, but there is a viewer expectation thing about blossoms and color... I will try a mix again this year as I have some Fuji Neopan 100 loaded at the moment... I like b&w, but spring is also such a vi...

I highly recommend the book

Love the contrast between the for/back - ground. 🍻

Thank you drg...

It was a sunny day and the background was an upslope with a copse of trees at the edge of the rice field... just raised the contrast a little and adjusted the black level to obscure some of the detail. Casey

Make me think hard
