Time for a visit to 明治神宮 (Meiji Jingū) as is my New Year tradition... return the arrow from last year, take some photos, and get a new arrow for 2020. I took the same photos again... first sunrise of the year (6:59 AM), Meiji Shrine, and the morning after...

That’s commitment and strong conviction!

Have a great year ahead, Casey.

It would not be New Year's Day without a visit to Meiji Shrine...

I have to ask...

literally, "breaking - evil spirit - arrow" a decorative arrow sold at shrines at New Year's to ward off misfortune and to attract good luck. Casey

Getting up and out before 6:00 AM was a challenge...

I’ve walked those same steps a few times, at day break and other times at night (just more civilized!). Always interesting purely for the cultural experience. This last week I’ve had a urge to locate おせさ料理 but to no avail. Only a handful of Japanese resta...

I have never had real おせさ料理 (New Year's food)...

My buddy always does the noodles on 01-01... actually I prefer a good nabe dish, but tonight (01-01) I am thinking to have sushi and sake... can't go wrong with sushi & sake ;-)

Good luck in the new year. [nt]

I certainly have fun behind the lens... visiting well known locations or someplace new. Tradition in the context of 2020 but rooted in hundreds of years. Over a coffee I was talking to some of my Japanese friends about how it was 10-20-30 years ago... I e...

directly across from the statue of Hachiko... The area is well known for it's "event nights"... Halloween, New Year's Eve, or after big sporting wins... it can be a bit 'active' after dark... Casey

Thank you S F... all the best to you as well

I was using the Canon 5D Mark II with the EF 35mm f/1.4L... recent days I am appreciating the results from that kit. Casey

Beautiful pictures of places that I also love.

May the arrow make your new year a wonderful one full of joy and happiness! Never been to Tokyo on New Year’s Eve - but when there, I am always thankful to the Jetlag effect that allows me to wander around in Shibuya in times when it’s (relatively) calm. ...

Thanks erone...

I worked for a German software company and spent many enjoyable weeks in Germany, but never over the holidays. It remains one of my favorite destinations. I have a PAM GMT, but don't travel as much as I use to... With the mobile phone and ever present lap...

Thanks John...
