Thank you so much...I got so lucky with the Bohemian Waxwings

I'm coming back from my local park that day, horrible day, I think I spotted only 1 cardinal lol and I look towards a tree in the neighborhood that I call the "lucky tree" and there are about 40-60 waxwings just relaxing in it, first, I've only seen waxwings once before in my neighborhood (we're in the city so its tough to get mountain and forest birds). So I'm like, great they're probably Cedars, I get closer to them and I nearly started crying, 98% Bohemians !!! I've never seen Bohemians and I've only heard the tales (they're pretty shy birds and from what I've been told they're mostly in deep forest regions). I try to get close to them but they're super skidish. I take a position in this little cedar bush (with berries) and all of a sudden I get a wave of them coming down and picking berries not even like 3 meters in some cases next to me! I recover too late, they go up in a massive tree again, I wait another 15min and the second wave comes down, I was able to snap a couple shots but in my excitement I missed a good couple opportunities, this one actually came out much better than I expected. Long story short, they leave and I don't see them fully expecting thats the end of my waxwing photo opportunities for the year.... So about a week ago I run into the sound of waxwings, Bohemians, I'm hitting up a local trail and its more forested, the berries still haven't been picked by birds this year, I do the trail and coming back run into 300!!! Waxwings, super up high, I wait a couple minutes and they end up Top Gunning me, just flying straight past as beautifully as they can biggrin I've been very spoiled this year and even luckier not to get pooped on biggrin heheh

What I've been addicted to for the last couple years two crops (the portrait of the coopers and the rabbit eye shot) but everything else is original, unedited (I don't edit my images just prefer to be in the field rather than editing behind the screen). ...

Beautiful body of work ...

I use the Nikon D850 with the Nikon 500pf (used to use a sigma 150-600 but it jammed last summer and they never honoured warranty a real piece of cake )

Pack light. Go big.

Not a Nikon expert so I had to looked up the AF-S NIKKOR 500mm f/5.6E PF ED VR. Seems to be the perfect light travel / handheld lens for wildlife at 236 mm x 1451.5 g ... a little out of my price range and I'm not a dedicated birder / wildlife photographe...

I think I bit the bullet hard when I got it, totally price heavy but.....

Its probably the cheapest Nikon lens between the Sigma 150-600mm and the Nikon 200-500, between that there is a whole lotta nothing for Nikon shooters, an amazing 400mm with tele but its more expensive and then this beauty of a 500. I think Canon and even...

I use it a lot now so I've gotten my practice down and know what works and what doesn't my keeper rate has gone up substantially, my old lens I'd get maybe 2/10, potentially 2/5 shots if I was lucky. This lens constantly gets 9/10 keepers, the eye is I th...

Impressive!
