I haven't done anything from the archives in a long time...

and this isn't strictly from my archives as it's my mom's wedding photo from 1942. It's from an assortment of old family photos that recently came into my sister's hand after languishing in the dark for many years... Photo Credit: my dad Mother's Day brou...

That’s a great photo...

Of your mother and it’s also part of social history. The fact that it was taken in 1942 I find fascinating, as they were difficult times for the world. Can you tell us anything else about your fathers work during the war years ?.

I have a little information...

like most guys of that generation, he didn't talked about the experience extensively. Prior to WWII my dad was already a professional photographer, he was contracted out of Detroit and took photos of the CC Camps and when the build up started he photograp...

That’s really interesting...

Most people of that generation didn’t talk much about their wartime experiences. Photography is obviously “in your blood”.

This is just fantastic!

She was a school teacher in Northern Wisconsin... one winter she drove everywhere in reverse as the transmission was broken and she couldn't afford to have it fixed... ; ) Casey

conversations between generations is a missed oppertunity ; )

I recently re-read "East of Eden" by John Steinbeck (1952)... there's more there than I caught in the first read, and much more than in the movie. A good book is worth reading more than once. Casey

What a smashing photograph.

1942, I presume money was tight and yet she manages to look so smart and elegant. Same generation as my parents and what a generation they were. Regards Kev.

Thank you Kev...

She had her moments... I remember listening to one of the Ingemar Johansson vs. Floyd Patterson fights with her on the radio in 1960 or 1961... I think it was the latter fight in 61... in any case Johansson lost both Patterson fights by KO, his only two p...

No tricks or games, just a simple "it's my wedding photo", a record of events. It use to be the norm to write a small text on the back of prints... Uncle Fred in XXXX or Home Sweet Home XXXX... just daily events captured over time. I have seen exhibitions...

Quite sentimental.

I enjoy looking into the details... red nails, the car with a back side window that's cracked open... the portrait is a keeper. Casey

Thanks Casey,

it is among a carefully curated selection of about a dozen images from her youth (baby to young adult) that I scanned to my computer drive for indefinite keeping. Those details that you mention are precisely what makes the image 'pop' to me as well . Chee...

Nice photo - it taken by your dad?

My mom says hello. This is from the same era as your mother's picture, in the mid-Forties, taken after my dad joined the Navy but before they were married and he went off to war. I don't know when this was taken but they look awfully young... Mike ...

Enormously sweet.

Of course moms are complicated, and we don't always see the sweet side of them... Mike

I do agree :)....

I have never quarreled more with anyone than with my mom in my late teens and early twenties. That's because nobody ever knew better how to really push my buttons on pressing topics. It all ended pretty fairly and abruptly at the outset of my mid-twenties...

Old photos are fun...

and yes the 'wedding photo' was taken by my father. I like that first photo of your mom... It deserves some clean up... it's a lovely photo. I recently did some archive scans from prints for my friend for a 90th anniversary event. It took me about two hou...

I cleaned up the color one

Over the years my brother has become the keeper of all old photos, movies, etc. He has been good about converting them all to digital format so they should be god for the foreseeable future. I suggest you do the same if you haven't already : )

Too many...
