When I first arrived in Tokyo one of my first weekend trips away was to Karuizawa. 


I sometimes think that when I retire I should like to live for a while in a small town in Nagano (but I don’t think my wife would be too keen on the idea!)

we have cold rain and 12°C at the moment with more of the same for the next couple of days... never mind, any weather is good weather... As far as I remember Portland is not unaccustomed to rain ; ) Thanks for the comments... next visit let's do something...

I can confirm rain and gray many days...but not today...sunny and cool! I also want to say thank you for our wonderful meet-up in Tokyo and next visit I will carve out time away from work to hang out together....was truly fun and special. I am in the proc...

I was a little out of practice and therefore a little out of breath as I made the climb, but satisfied with my door-to-door time. The area is well known for it's clean air... lots of trees. Casey

the main issue I see in small communities after retirement is finding good medical support... I have discussed it with my doctor in Tokyo and he agrees... on the other hand the air is better, the fruit & vegetables are healthier (and less expensive).....
