I've recently returned from a dedicated landscape photography course

Jul 09, 2016,03:00 AM

... 5 nights and 4 days in Central Australia with a photographer for Australian Geographic. 4 days of getting up before 5 am to catch the right light. Cameras in use by participants included Leica S/SL, Pentax 645, Alpa and Phase One.

This new Hasselblad was announced on our last day on location. Several jaws dropped at the news. I have money saved for this if the real product lives up to expectations.

Cheers.

Along with two new XCD lenses. On paper the sensor specs look a bit similar to that of the Pentax 645z... the similarities end there. To paraphrase a good friend (who I often quote because he's so quotable) said... this is the danger zone . Hasselblad XCD...

The more I think that the XD1 has your name on it... for some reason it just seems to be a good fit... Most likely it would mean different/adjusted image processing. For me it's how the WB and metering are managed... the flash sync might make that process...

Nice and looks a lot more

But the new mirrorless Hasselblad XD1 is a different ballgame... can't wait to get my hands on it.

I had one for a while

Loved it too but mostly because it was the only practical digital MF body out there. For me form factor important.

I currently have the Mamiya RB67

it's film, and I don't shoot that much 120 format (the RB67 is 6x7), but I enjoy the slower pace.

....H looks a great landscaper's tool.

Consider the Pentax 645z

On paper the 645z has the "same" sensor as the X1D for USD 6,997 (USD 2,000 less for the body)... worth a look. Note: all prices listed by me are list price at a major New York camera shop and is shown only as a comparison.

....are quite a step up for me. The H has a 14-stop dynamic range, which I think i would enjoy. I also like the fact that it is mirrorless.....its a camera that looks like it will be relatively easy to handle. Would love to play with one. Also.....H is a ...

A Phase One. Who ever expects to see one of those in real life. I look forward to your review and to actually handling one. I'd like to know if my film Hasselblad 501 lenses will work on this. The Pentax was the digital 645 and it put out some amazing pho...

My understanding (not confirmed)

is that H Series lenses might work on the X1D with an adapter (???). For me, editing photos (i.e. ranking or selecting which photos to process and which photos to file) tends to be an emotional activity... in the end to define and hone one's personal pref...
