I do like your Nr 5 also...

..as I so well captures the atmosphere of rural Japan.
The reason I put Nr 3&4 higher on the list is that on Nr 5 for my taste the format or cropping could have shown more skies, to give the scene more "breathing space". Just my 2 cents.
Thanks for bringing some beauty to my office, Casey smile

I like the 100 mm focal length...

the following were all taken with a 100 mm, except number 02 where I used a 35 mm. There is some cropping, but I like the way the longer lens brings the subject closer and adds a little compression to the fore-middle-back·ground. I find the results a bit ...

Thanks Nico... №01 and №03 are good choices...

I have photographed that house and barn using different focal lengths and so far I like this version the best. The second photo is the same mountain (Mount Asama), from a different perspective but basically the same distance... For №03 I was using a PL fi...

Zoom lenses nr 4

I often seen that serious photographers apparently use fixed focal lenses only (or mostly). Is the light and brightness of a fixed so much more better? Or do you guys use zoom lenses like all of us but don’t write about it? I use a Nikon D7500 (only since...

At the moment I have about 25 lenses, only one zoom...

the Canon EF 70-200mm f/4L... which mostly gets used at the long end... with or without a 1.4x extender. In the early days zoom lenses had a poor reputation, useful, but at that time the quality just wasn't there... that's changed. As well early zooms ten...

For this explanation and background. The 40 mm is also a macro lens and I like working with it. Great suggestion on shooting few with the zoom lens and on tripod. The Tamron; I got it last year as a gift from somebody. But it’s seldom used for simple reas...

One of my favorites of this series is №05... the garden photo taken during the Golden Hour with the splashes of color and distant mountains. It captures the moment very much as it was... about 10 minutes later I was looking at... " Trees " ... in a small ...

I put a 2 pixel black frame around the photo because the "white-ish" sky tended to merge with the white background of the forum... that does make a visual hard (harsh) stop along the top edge... thanks for the feedback, always appreciated. Casey

thanks for sharing the beautiful photos!

and for bringing another perspective through the 100mm lens. I’ve a 60mm for my APS-C CL that I used mostly for macro and portraits. i could try it for landscape next time.

60mm on APS-C is about 90 equvalent...

so an interesting reach for landscape... trying a range of FLs in different (from standard) situations can sometimes bring pleasing results ; ) Casey

Beautiful Casey

The active volcano, Mount Asama, dominates the area as a single point of reference... My schedule for December is fixed... will be "Santa" on 14-Dec and in Karuizawa from 13-15... a quick trip for sure. Casey

I am partial to numbers 4 and 5 —

 By: orahu : November 28th, 2019-08:06
Number 4 for its serenity and number 5 because it reminds me of my home state of Vermont. I am also interested in reading all of the ‘technical’ commentary on camera systems. I am using a Leica D-Luxe 109 these days. I love the simplicity, size for travel...

Hanimex certainly made a lot of cameras...

depending on the model, the Hanimex Praktica had the M42 mount... That lens mount was first developed by Carl Zeiss at their Jena plant in 1938 at the request of the KW camera company (Kamera Werkstätten Guthe & Thorsch) for their Praktica line. M42 somet...

Thanks, Casey, for the advice...

Well taken. I normally only pack the Leica on special trips — vacations or special work destinations — and I need to get in the habit of simply having it at my side and seeing what happens!
