Hard to impossible to get right in the camera but with editing its amazing what you can recover in the shadows
If you shoot in raw with a not to old camera. Expose so you dont blow anything out and then edit. Then there are probably cameras with setting modes that can handle such things better than others.
Tough to take in picture: A ceiling light.

Not an easy shot always but i also play with EV with bright lights in the camera
Then later in post editing bring out the shadows

Try „Expose ro the right (ETTR)“ in Raw and postprocess to reduce the overexposed highlights. Have a good new year!
