Ah. Yeah that complicates things when shooting like that. Can't your find a person to use as a model and you can take your time and work on things.

Also using a group model is really cheating and not doing you any favors since the lighting and almost everything is already set up and not allowing you to do your own work. I was a portrait photographer for 40 years, and if you're interested you can PM me to critique your work and give you pointers. On sites like this you will just tend to get compliments, which may feel good but don't really help you get better.

Nice shots my friend...

My choice goes to #2 and #3 but I would love to see them with a sharper focus. It gives some softness to the image on the one hand, but looks a bit blurred on the other hand... Still very nice shots 👍👏👏

thanks, Mike!

i shall ask the model to hold a little longer in subsequent sessions. there are usually other photographers and i only have 1 to 2 sec to focus (manually) 😅

Third one

There is some truth to this critique. We have to be careful when shooting what the pictures says sometimes.

When I first started out in photography and was using untrained models, I often did the standing hand against the head pose and my mother who knew nothing about photography, said, it looks like she has a splitting headache. And she was right. One has to b...

Not sure if I asked before or not but do you use a tripod. I know it's not as "cool' looking BUT it allows you to....

setup the framing and angles etc, AND then only concentrate on the subtle things like hands and feet and hair etc. Then when you trip the shutter you are ONLY looking at the face and expression. If you don't use a tripod when you trip the shutter you are ...

yes, you've mentioned this before and it's something i've taken note of

however, most of these sessions where i take the photographs are organised by a studio and given there are other photographers, i do not have the luxury of time. and it does not help that i'm using manual focusing. guess i just need to keep practising and...

Nothing better than another session...

to define and refine one's experience... keep after it. Three different compositions and package of elements... nothing better than working a theme to widen the horizons. What was your take-away from this series? Casey .

thanks, Casey!

i think i need to find some consistency in the quality of my photos. having said that, I'm just glad i don't do this for a living and can simply enjoy this as a hobby 😅
