"Normal" hahaha...

Three is my minimum for an extended photo shoot... main film camera, back-up film body, and fixed lens mirror-less digital. The two film cameras are Nikon F3P & F3.... the F3 has a different focus screen that works better with a wide angle lens. This trip 28mm, 50mm, and 105mm.... I have done trips with one camera and one lens... Traveling "heavy" would be a dSLR with multiple lenses in place of the mirror-less plus a tripod, flash, etc.

Hokkaido... first impression

 By: cshimokita : January 6th, 2020-16:38
I arrived last night for a two week stay in Sapporo and Asahikawa... checked in and headed out for some dinner. Here are a couple of first impressions. Cold, but not much snow at the moment in central Sapporo. The old government building and back streets....

Love the chill of that first photo —

—evokes total coldness, in a good way. Enjoy your time in the north!

Thanks orahu...

My pedometer is hitting max as I walk around the city... found a very nice black Nikon F3P with motor drive at one of my favorite used camera shops... very tempting but in the end I resisted ; ) Casey

on previous visits I toured the old government building... Hokkaido has a very interesting history... the Sapporo Brewery uses the Polar Star (North Star) as it's logo... that's another tour ; ) Casey

Enjoy your stay.

For the past couple of years there was a huge amount of snow at this time. In December 2018 ...

fernando... Odori Park has almost no snow... but forecast for later in the week

I visited my fav restaurant for lunch... normally I have hokke for lunch but it seems only to be available at night... it means I have to go back in the evening... Tomorrow I might head for Otaru for sushi and a walk around the port city... Casey

For somewhere close (near Odori Park)..

Shooting mostly film again this trip... loaded up on ISO100 and 400... only two rolls of Kodak Gold 200. BTW, did you get your Nikon to the repair shop? Casey

Great

 By: Quan : January 7th, 2020-22:38
Just sent it in yesterday to a third party repair shop and just now the guy text and said ready to pick up. Hope there is no war so I can bring it to my March trip to shot snowy

hahaha... let me know if you spend anytime in Tokyo...

 By: cshimokita : January 8th, 2020-01:18
Early March should have snow in the North... the season seems to be later and later with passing years... with exceptions of course ; ) One day turn around with service... must not have been a serious problem... Casey

Thank you horology8...

the open space in front of the government building was right next to my restaurant... a couple of blocks from Sapporo Station. Little snow but lots of lights ; ) Casey

Thanks Nico...

Traveling a little light this trip... only three cameras plus the phone cam which I almost never use... I have an old flip phone with no internet, memory chip, nor email, so no way to download the phone photos ; ) Casey

The view is to die for 😍

Thanks centurionone...

Won't make it to Hakodate this trip, but I have been a couple of time... the night view of the city from the mountain is awesome. Casey

I always enjoy your Japan pictures immensely, Casey.

There is something about “every day Japan” that is endlessly fascinating. Enjoy your trip and please post more. Christian

Mostly film this trip, which requires development and scanning...

 By: cshimokita : January 7th, 2020-14:25
but I will do some digital updates from time to time... having trouble with my laptop battery (it seems to be dead or dying)... still plugged in so I might be okay for the next 12 days... fingers crossed ; ) Casey

Blue

 By: Jurry : January 14th, 2020-08:14
The blue in that first picture almost makes you feel the crisp cool air while the yellow/orange lights on the right emphasize that typical winter warm cozy family inside of family homes. The combination makes it a picture I can stare at for hours Thanks f...

One of the very few locations in Japan lit-up with the photographer in mind

Normally there's a huge information sign in the middle of the shot... can be quite frustrating ; ) Monday I moved to Asahikawa where it's much colder, but again not as much snow as previous years... Casey
