you've captured this timepiece very well...

when I saw this timepiece in metal - more than the case design, I fell in love with the sapphire crystal and the movement !

the movement finish is stunning, probably the best I've seen in any Patek.

Best,
mahesh.,

Some thoughts on the Patek Philippe 5105P.

 By: amanico : September 3rd, 2022-16:24
This watch was issued in a limited edition of 100 pieces, in 2006 to celebrate the opening of the Patek Philippe Salon in Geneva. It is one of these wonderful rectangular cases from Patek, along with the 5100 and the 5500 ( also called Pagoda ). Delicious...

Hi Nicolas, This piece is special !

It is not main stream because of the shaped case, but a great reference nonetheless !

It's a real beauty!

Patek should do more rectangular pieces like this one

These 'oddities' from PP tend to please me much more than their 'mainstream' offerings........ Thanks for the excellent pictures! Cheers, Filip

I find this type of "tank" watches very classy! And you can dress them down with textured straps (tan, taupe, for example) which makes them look über-cool! Thanks for sharing! René

Claro que si, amigo. Excellent strap suggestion.

also I think it is a challenge for most PPs to get it at right price - isn't it?

This watch is spectacular

Looking at it is making me waver in my commitment to getting a 5100 some day! Maybe I should be hunting this instead

quite nice...

I suspect the 3-dimensional sculpting of the case and crystal (which are very evident when looking at the various side profiles of the watch) gave some customers second thoughts. I personally really like this watch, although definitely out of my $ range :...

You might well be right. Thank you, J Jota.

The 5565 is definitely more popular.

 By: patrick_y : September 3rd, 2022-19:29
But you know me... I like Art Deco style, and this one pushes my buttons! By the way, that movement is so nice! So much nicer than anything Patek Philippe makes nowadays for a "standard" watch.

It would be nice if they reinvigorated the Gondolo line...

 By: mdg : September 3rd, 2022-20:58
...with a new shaped movement...not just the 25-21.

Agreed. But until then, I'll live with my Reverso.

 By: patrick_y : September 3rd, 2022-21:20
At least I've got one Reverso. I like it. It might not have a movement with great finishing, but it works pretty well overall!

The movement is terrific, but the design of the case and crystal is not for me.

 By: vitalsigns : September 4th, 2022-02:40
For another exercise, compare the exceptional bridge layout of the 5105 with the cal. 30-255 in the new Calatrava 6119. We have really lost the beauty of movement architecture from vintage pieces.

I totally agree on the movement, my friend. Alas.

5105 is the only modern Patek I've ever lusted after, Nicolas, and . . .

 By: Dr No : September 5th, 2022-05:33
. . . still do, but acquiring one would only be possible under a unique set of circumstances. The list price in '06 was ~ $35K, if memory serves correct, and has migrated north ever since. Unlikely, but as they say, life is full of surprises. Art
