yes the cal 240 is in-house- there are many articles about the innovations of this movement including one pasted below.   the development of the cal 240 and the PP3940 in the 1980s was a bold and risky move (during a time when the trend was to make battery operated watches cheaper and simpler) that brought PP out from the depths of the quartz crisis and placed the company firmly at the top on the watch industry going forwards....   there are many images of henri stern himself wearing this watch because it was their watch and movement that brought PP out of the crisis to where it is today.

What I am asking is, did Patek make the 240 movement entirely in house?

What’s reasoning for not having a seconds indicator for the 240 caliber

Up to now they still use it for the 5327 even with the bigger case.

If seconds indicator

in the usual spot this would have increase the height of the movement. 240 is super flat.

Ah ok. So it’s a tradeoff for being thin.

I’d pick the thin as well. How is JLC able to do it with its MUT?

To my knowledge

There is also an interesting article very specific to the 3940 available online at “The Collected Man” website. I just found it. They talk about the case suppliers for the 3940 along with its entire history of manufacture. Fortunately , there were around ...

3940 is not a humble piece!

the article omits some other information that i received from john reardon international head of watches at christies, in that despite the 7,000 production numbers there are some variants/ color metals that are indeed quite rare. the rose gold for example...

It is an interesting article

However nothing was mentioned about the 3940J and 3940R produced after the London exhibition using the 5140 dial layout.
