It’s so tempting.

I totally understand your logic in selling the piece. That’s why it’s so tempting for me now as well.
I actually also have a 5960A black dial, so I figured between the two, I’d like to keep the 5960A over 5980A. 5960A may never be as popular as 5980A, but I know I wear it almost on a daily basis. I love the annual calendar complication and use the chronograph often to time mundane things daily.
I’m almost there to pull the trigger. Just doing a bit more market research and in fact a lot of crap came up at work, so I’m currently focusing on that first..... The hobby can wait. Hahaha

With the recent Nautilus craze...

I’m starting to think if I use this opportunity to trade up to grail-status pieces! I’m lucky to be able to get a 5980 many years ago. Now it’s so tempting to trade it, along with one or two more pieces, for a 5270 or something like that.... please talk s...

Sounds logical to me.

Buy low, sell high... Unless you've attached sentimental value to your 5980.

Interesting..

5270 is a beautiful piece. Would also definitely consider 5970. Or 5370. This thought has crossed mind, honestly I do love my 5980. Tough choices. Not sure I am ready. Curious if you are. Best, H

It's really tempting because for me, the 5980 is quite thick so trading for a PCC is definitely worth it...just based on 5980, imo.

Who knows, one day I may trade some of my SS Sports crown too for a grail PP, but then they look so nice and colorful so it's hard and I will feel "betraying" my AD who has been good to me. Also, you cannot wear the 5270-grade watches every day, something...

I also have the same line of thinking

and traded a 5711 and AP 15202 toward some new pieces. Both beautiful watches and truth be told I still have a 5711 white dial. But I felt that since I was getting such good value for these particular models I could apply the proceeds to some other watche...

Do it...

The Nautilus market feels like its at the top and will likely see a significant correction in the near future. The Nautilus and sport Rolex market feels like the collector car market in 2015. Most vintage Porsche and Ferrari's have corrected about 30% sin...

If everybody expects a correction,

Most likely it'll never come. Never crossed my mind to sell or trade it. ...

Not everybody expects it yet...

The masses are still buying. But those who have a feeling for intrinsic value know that prices are alteady far too high to be sustainable - as demonstrated by this post.

No brainer.

Take advantage of the hype and crazy prices of your 5980 which is a sports watch from Patek and upgrade to something which Patek are world famous for as well as the best in the market at a classic complication. I would also suggest a 5370 or 5970 over a 5...

You're talking common sense.

However, what we do here, has a very little to do with it ;-)

Asking 100k for a 5980 i think it a s a great opportunity to convert your watch for something even more special,i think it s a good move

One could argue: A finally first in-house chrono for Lemania based complication?

I know, I know, but at least, gives one a reason to pause and think it over.

I would do

exactly this!

I won’t trade away the 5980 1a

 By: Mineral : February 12th, 2019-06:42
i find the nautilus and aquanaut are most versatile watches from Patek. I owned few calatrava annual calendar and world timer and sold them as I don’t wear them at all.

To trade or not to trade...

I was wondering the same. I bought a 5712 several years ago with a discount over MSRP (I know, it sounds incredible) and the actual potential gain is 100%: still not sure which could be a viable trade. I dream about a 3970, but gap is still wide...

I'd do it

If I were in that position, I'd prefer the 5270 to the 5980. I am not in this market, but my favorite version of the automatic chronograph has been the 5960/1A. I think the Nautilus looks best as a simple watch, without complications.

I sold mine for double what I paid

I still can’t believe I sold it for that much I never thought I would sell it but at current market prices I couldn’t not sell I’ve enjoyed it for six years and made a lot of money on top

It’s so tempting.
