Better IMO

The 5070 is a bit of a cluttered mess in my opinion, especially considering how large of a watch it is. The subdials at 3 and 9 are too big (especially compared to other more beautiful 2 register chronographs like the 1463 or 3 register watches like their perpetual-chronographs), and the cut off numerals (3 4 8 and 9) don't allow for much negative space on the dial. I think the remake of the VC Cornes de Vache suffers a bit from this too (subregisters are a little too big IMO). Then again, this is partly a reflection of my taste for a simpler and more open dial like the 1463, 2499 and 3970 PCCs, and the 1980s VC Les Historiques chronograph which, IMO, have the proportions right. I do love the hands on the 5070 more than the 5170 though. I would be glad to own any of them, of course, but when I was choosing between these pieces, I passed on the 5070 for these reasons.

For such a seemingly monotone dial, the 5070G’s subtle textures and layers catch the light and reveal a brilliance of design. Patek did an excellent job with this one! Photo was taken with an iPhone and admittedly I could have done a better job at dust re...

Really nice picture indeed

Thank you! I would encourage those who have perhaps passed judgment on this watch based on photos, to actually see one and even try it on the wrist.

As is the case with some watches, photos don’t seem to properly convey its overall appeal.

Fair point and always a good idea

To the OP, my comments were a little blunt and out of place because I didn't read your thread title carefully to realize these were your personal watches; I meant no offense. (My wife lovingly and inoffensively thinks my Pateks are "slylistically challene...

My friend is really, really happy about his new 5070 even though he had to let go a bunch of nice Rolexes for it. Talking about the "star" of this group, dear Nico, it´s a very difficult decision imo. All 3 models have a character of its own. One day I pr...
