Vintage or modern that is the question. Here are 2 somewhat comparable watches in that they are both perpetuals, but ...

couldn’t be more different in the eyes of most collectors, particularly from a desirability standpoint. One (the 5496P) is platinum and water resistant, has the much more complicated retrograde function, is much easier to set since all calendar functions are quick set, has a sweep seconds hand (vs no second hand), a see through back plus a solid back, and has a winding box.
The other (3448) is vintage, yellow gold, was the first self winding perpetual by any manufacturer made in series, is IMHO a nuisance to set if it hasn’t been worn in a long time.. Yet, in general it is Much more desired than its platinum modern counterpart.
IMHO both are beautiful. I recognize that my view of the 5496 as being beautiful puts me in a small minority. My view of the 3448 as being beautiful puts me in a very large majority. A mint 3448 is a much more expensive watch although many would argue not as practical.
I love both but I suspect most people would have a strong preference for one but not the other. I also love both vintage and modern equally.
So I wonder how the Forum members feel about 5496 vs 3448; or the more similar 3940/5140 vs 3448.
Forgetting price, which of these 4 references would you most like to wear?
And, do you have a general preference, vintage vs modern and why?
