Can anyone explain why the J comes after the P? The P normally signifies discontinuance or they hoping to eke out the last few dollars [nt]

This model is looking best in J, not saying that the others are not beautiful, too. So, too keep the best for last and squeeze out more money for it is clever (premium of around 10k compared to the first G models).

I was thinking how the 5170J was such a dog....and I thought that P was normally the last metal produced before a model is discontinued with J normally starting

I don't have an official explanation, but yellow gold has been coming back recently. If I have to guess this explains this new offering, plus the fact it's a very natural choice for this model ;-) [nt]

Thanks a lot S_Haverford for breaking the news of the new 5270! While J is normally not my choice of color, it's interesting to see Patek introducing it after the P version....

was the last iteration of that reference and made in the fewest numbers. I expect the J here to be the same and highly desirable.

I recall Thierry Stern saying J version of the 5970 was the hardest to make.

...and am always happy when a J version gets added. I only wish manufacturers would harden the metal like Frodsham does to help in the durability department. There are a couple of watches I would probably buy (not only PP) if they were available in yellow...
