I have been admiring this little ugly duckling of a Patek since its launch in 2000.
Patek spent 3 years from 1996 to develope this case with 52 parts, more than twice what is considered to be a complex case.
I suppose its target of men was a bit off when it was finally launched in 2000....one of the rarest of all Pateks, it has been a bit small for men's wrists and the strap is so slim, one cannot imagine a man wearing it.
But...for a lady, it is MARVELOUS...lovely little thing, so hefty in its dimunitive size, and the absolute precision of the "click" as the cover flips open to reveal a mirror like finish, and it works as a mirror too!
The dial is solid gold.
The seconds hand is black oxidised gold.
The seamless cover of two gold alloys is something to admire
The actuators are the two solid gold pins on the lower part of the case.
For those who are looking for Patek superb level of craftsmanship, and I really mean it, at the non complication pieces, and the craftsmanship is actually tactile....you can feel it on this piece.
Take time to admire the bevel on the case, and then look at the complex bevel on the clasp which is also of two alloyed golds.
The white gold bands run thru from the case to the lugs, and the bevels on the cover are very subtle.
Notice the finish and bevel to the inside of the cover.
And the bevel finish to actuator buttons!
The official Patek stance on this 5099 is that they make very few of it.
For a lady who is looking for a true blue WIS wristwatch that is not a BIG watch for men....this may be the only watch in the market.
For ladies....enjoy!
