Everyone's Opinion is Right

If your opinion is that a Celestial does not meet your expectations for the money then you're right not to pursue one. For those of us who do covet this complication, however, it all makes terrific sense. I'll let you in on a very unexpected observation I've made. The 6102P is a wonderful sporty watch that compliments casual clothing. I actually purchased this piece with the thought that it would look great in a formal setting. The truth is, however, that with indoor lighting the wonder of the dial is pretty much lost. It's rather dark and difficult to appreciate the complexity of the Milky Way. In sunlight, on the other hand, the dial becomes vibrant and is truly spectacular. With blue jeans, an open shirt and a casual sport coat it's an absolute killer! Like nearly all Patek pieces it's "relatively" understated so only those who know ... know ... but when one asks to see it and they step outside in the sun their face lights up like the dial.😃

Always liked the white metal with blue. Not for the movement cause that is the only thing I don't like. For such an impressive complication and such a price tag it could have been more 'special' than the same base movement we find in a world timer. Nothin...

Apparently, I am desensitized in the question of base movements ....

 By: Marcus Hanke : September 15th, 2017-04:28
... but astronomic complications and indications are energy hungry. A fine and delicate movement might be exclusive, but mostly not reasonable. This is why I have no problems at all with the ETA 2892A2 being the base movement of Ulysse Nardin's astronomic...

Agreed

Agree with your comment about the movement. Could have been more special. I love the central months indicator. Wish there were more models with this complication.

I think I totally agree with you

I've seen the 6102P a year ago and indeed, I'm also very attracted by the way the sky has been represented and what it brings in terms of poetry. Maybe that the 44mm are necessary for such a dial... I've never found any problem in having a smaller movemen...

No problems with the movement. It needs to be thin!

By: Mean Solar Time : September 15th, 2017-08:48
I think ... so long as it's solid and reliable ... the movement is not an issue. On the contrary the 240 is probably the ideal movement if self-winding is desired. In other threads I've seen concerning this watch and specifically complaining about the mov...

True, the thickness is really an issue

And getting a thin movement base, especially an automatic wound one, is not that easy to find. I overlooked that point. Thanks for your input Best, Mark

Feel free to remove if its in bad taste but

May I understand why, mechanically or artistically, does this fall within the price categories of much more complex pieces like perpetual chronos/rattrapantes? Regards, skyeriding

No problem about asking if done as respectfully as you did :)

There are watches (like the 5959P www.watchprosite.com ) that are proposed at a quite high priced compared to others and which assets are not always visible. The construction of the complication and the different layers (3 Sapphire glasses, moonph...

Your Premise Might Not Be Right?

By: Mean Solar Time : September 15th, 2017-14:16
I'm not sure if your premise that a Celestial is less complicated than a perpetual is true? While it is a fact that a Perpetual has a lot more dials, this may NOT be the only measure of complexity. Indeed, the 5078 only displays Hours, Minutes and Seconds...

Not to say it is "less complicated", but trying to get an insight as to its category compared to other similar movements

 By: skyeriding : September 15th, 2017-15:41
I believe each complications have their own issues and adjustments required to work properly, and there should be a somewhat tangible justification of why a watch within a brand's catalogue may be put in a certain pricing category to justify its value. I ...

Functional but perhaps not "special ?" I don't know the right answer here...

 By: 5980 : September 15th, 2017-09:58
...I understand the comment regarding the movement. At that money, the expectation is there, rightly or wrongly, for a bit "more." The 5204, for example, gets as much time backside up for good reason IMO. On the other hand, all of these pieces are first a...

Hahaha ... You're Right!

Only jewelers have asked to see the watch when I've worn it. I've never bumped into another aficionado/collector with it on. Most of us are pretty low key at events that attempt to assemble a watch loving crowd ... so ... Nautilus 5980! Lol ... BTW I mean...

Congratulations!

I understand you have one, if ever you can take some pictures, we'd love to see them (in a new post). It is a rare reference to see and it would be great to have also your feedback as an owner Best, Mark

OK

Maybe the next full moon I'll combine several Moon Phase pieces along with the Celestial for a unique shot

That would be fantastic :) [nt]

Mean Solar Time, I saw this watch at my dealer. I am very interested in astronomical complications. I walked away with mixed feelings. You're right, the dial indoors (and that's where I got to see it) is pretty dark and not at all like the photos, at leas...

I learned something!

I was not aware that there exists a 2nd version of the night sky? Interesting!

Gorgeous indeed...

I can't think of a better looking watch.

I have seen this watch once in person
