Welcome here, Afaleh, and thanks for having the time for the introduction, it is much appreciated.

I like the diversity of your collection a lot.  And I smiled when I read that you liked a Calatrava as much as a PAM 127, because you are right, I think. As well as tool watches versus more refined ones.

We love The watch " per se ", for what it is, and its " identity " can be diverse, indeed.

Now as for your dilemma...

You are in the right process to separate the " keepers " from the others, which are a possible way to fund your next horological targets.

As for your keepers, these are absolutely stunning. You are lucky to own some marvels, such as the Extreme Lab II, the Double Split, the Yacht Master, and so on...

Your targets are excellent. I especially noticed the Duometre, here, which will become more and more appreciated, me think...

I think you have an answer when you made your list of the " ones to go ". If you already considered letting them go, their life in your collection is short... Their days are counted. I would trade or let them go for a killer one.

Now, at that point I would even more consider a 5970P than a 5270, personally, as I much prefer the case, dial and movement. But it is, of course, up to you!

Once again, welcome here!

Best,

Nicolas

The agony of choosing a collecting path (5270)

 By: afaleh : April 20th, 2021-12:44
Hello fellow watch crazies, long time listener etc I seldom post as I never feel I have much to add to the forums, but really do enjoy reading these and other forums, and as I have been struggling with a collecting dilema I thought this might be the best ...

Welcome

Member since 2008 and waited to post for the first time in 2021. Where is the time? ๐Ÿ˜‰ SA, very wealthy place. Super cars, luxury watches, culture, oil. So there are also people who have a normal income. For me it doesnโ€™t matter, poor - rich, as long watch...

Thank you for the welcome.

SA is just like any other place, there are those who have and those who don't. I consider myself fortunate.

They say

You are fortunate as we see your collection. The poor i see complain on you tube. They can hardly afford a Oris, while we talk completely normal of buying an AP, Blancpain as we buy butter and cake. Letโ€™s say, i can afford in the 2000 dollar - 5000 dollar...

Hi

A magnificent collection you have. It is diverse yet not overly so. It is obvious a lot of though has went into your collection. I absolutely love it. Congratulations on your wonderful collection and great taste. As for the decision that you need to make,...

Thank you for the compliment

yes every watch was chosen carefully and after much contemplation and saving through hard work. They are all dear to me, but then again the 5270P is a true end game watch

Thank you,

Yes indeed allot of thought has gone into each piece, no instant purchases hence my current train of thought

if you like 5270p...go for it !

Currently PPโ€™s grand complications such as 5270 are soft and easy to come by due to everyone are after the nautilus. Good luck n keep us posted. Ramadan Kareem ๐ŸŒ™

Nice collection, but 99.99% of the world would be go differ : )

Not wealthy enough to own these pieces

 By: afaleh : April 20th, 2021-16:03
My watch and car collection is worth more than my home and bank account combined! I believe in living life and perusing passions

Don't get me wrong...

 By: mdg : April 20th, 2021-16:08
...I have nothing against wealthy people...I'd like to be one, and many would say that I am. But unless you live in a trailer, you are 'wealthy.'

Not sure I can help with your dilemma but for sure go with your hearth. If some of these watches you feel less passionate then sell them and get the one on your mind...

I really love the diversity of your collection which would make most watch enthusiast drooling of passion! Thanks for sharing your passion and am pretty sure many of us would love to ear you chime him on any of our thread post here!

You are facing a very personal decision here, so let me only add to that I hope youโ€™ll find a way to add a 5270 to your collection, since itโ€™s a piece you love so much, *without* losing any of your other most special watches...or else, perhaps, wait a bit...

Welcome, great post ....

This is kind of dilemma that hits all collectors at some point on the journey. I think you have a great collection as itโ€™s diverse. Watch collecting should be enjoyable and itโ€™s easy for it to become all about values and safe queens. Make choices that bri...

Thank you for your thoughts

 By: afaleh : April 20th, 2021-16:02
Yep no safe queens here, if I donโ€™t wear a watch I donโ€™t keep it

That is an amazing and respectable collection...

Already the envy of many and I totally understand your position and dilemma. I am currently in the similar situation like you, at a point of my life after also about 15-20 yrs of collecting, only becoming more serious since 2014. My grail watch is also a ...

Thank you for the welcome

 By: afaleh : April 20th, 2021-16:01
Yes I have similar thoughts. A difficult decision but leaning towards consolidating everyday

You already have an amazing collection so the 5270P will only add to that. As a owner of several of your watches I can relate to those being keepers, especially the JLC EL2 (absolutely love this one)...

 By: holdemchamp1225 : April 20th, 2021-14:45
I can also recommend the JLC Duometre Chronograph in platinum which is an exceptional piece that is HIGHLY underappreciated and undervalued. As for trading in several pieces to get the 5270P, that is personal preference and only you can make that decision...

Agreed!

 By: afaleh : April 20th, 2021-15:59
Both JLC pieces are extremely underrated and a relative bargain! I would take the EL2 over a RM anyday

Welcome and congrats on a stunning collection๐Ÿ‘Œ๐Ÿป

I fully understand you and I find myself thinking similarly from time to time (but from a much more modest position ๐Ÿ˜…). That said and looking at your collection, I would say that it looks like you have the means to acquire the 5270P in the near future, ma...

I would advise you to sell that are easily replaceable like the Rolex pepsi. Also you should sell those you don't wear anymore. Yes, get the 5270P, IT is a great watch. Btw, I like your style, buy something for the wife then buy the watch happy wife, happ...
