The buyer is absolutely right in being disappointed

Sep 08, 2020,04:05 AM

A 5270P costs over $180k retail; and it is simply unacceptable for it to be dysfunctional on day1.

Watches are usually transported by air and in protective packaging. These are not therefore susceptible to any extraordinary shocks etc.

Watches are meant to be worn day to day and are not fragile.

The bottom line is that it is a QC failure and Patek and the AD are duty bound to replace the watch; and above all accept  responsibility for the QC failure.

I am glad that the watch package was opened at the AD instead of it being taken home as a safe-queen investment.

If this problem had surfaced a day later, am sure it would have become a long haul battle.

The 5270P quality control issues

 By: fallanden_ch : September 7th, 2020-05:06
I went to my AD on Friday to pick up my new 5270P and the chronograph wasn't working, he is ordering me another one. I'm so glad I caught the problem before I took the watch home. I'm scared the next one won't be perfect either. I'm so disappointed with P...

A watch still made and assembled by a human.

Glad you caught it, and AD is getting you another. Nothing to be upset about.

It is frustrating, but you are in good hands

Of course this is not right or acceptable. But do not worry as it is not about quality control, it is simply the result of various (sometimes careless) handlings. The good news is you spotted it in time and it will not be too long before you get a replace...

You are very lucky in a way.

 By: vitalsigns : September 7th, 2020-05:35
Had you stepped outside your AD with the watch, and gleefully timed your walk back to your car, then discovered the problem, Patek would likely have made you wait months to resolve a warranty claim (and yet not extend your warranty). Hope you get a new an...

Very good point John [nt]

Sorry to know about it and glad that your AD has sorted this out for you,

May I ask did the watch came in double seal, with the watch taken out of the seal in front of you at AD ? And I agree with John that you are very lucky that you noticed the problem before leaving your AD. Your second piece of 5270P should be perfect, as t...

yes, it was sealed I cut the seal myself

My AD is great, the watch was sealed and he waited for me to cut the seal. I just hope the next one is perfect in every way.

Easy fix

 By: watch-er : September 7th, 2020-06:08
As stated still made by humans

These things are always unfortunate, but you can at least be reassured Patek will work to fix that issue with the highest standards.

I can’t honestly imagine the watch will again come back to you with problems, especially at that price point (or at any price point!). Make sure to open again the watch in front of your AD😉Keep us posted.

he is ordering me a new watch

 By: fallanden_ch : September 7th, 2020-06:28
I won't be getting this one back, I'll be getting a new watch. I will unseal it in front of my ad. I'm sure this is rare, I am just worried about my luck.

You’re not the first. Won’t be the last.

Very disappointing . They market watches as being hand finished and inspected, yet we see models with dial defects and movement defects leaving the factory. I’m a patek customer myself and find this ridiculous.

it's a real shame

 By: fallanden_ch : September 7th, 2020-07:03
I don't know how this watch passed quality control. They claim to test the watch for weeks, so how could they miss a Chronograph that didn't work?

Being a mechanical part, anything is possible.

But for them to sell a 200k watch with misaligned hour markers - no excuses there!

Sorry to read that

and I've read and heard more of these kind of issues with brand new PP watches. All anecdotal of course and perhaps I'm too cautious, but it's the main reason I'm not buying a PP 5320G, which I chose to be my first PP. I'm not 'cool' enough to handle such...

I hope so

I think I will be ok the next time around, I can't get two bad watches in a row. I'm not that unlucky.

Sorry to read your disadventure for such a high-end brand and price !!

 By: montres1 : September 7th, 2020-07:55
Yet, the quality controls are meant to be very harsh, and to be honest they might not even have noticed it as they probably check / test all kind of details that are out of eye-sight, and such a "basic" mistake has been overlooked... Happily enough you sp...

Maybe a silly question but is it definitely a QC issue or could this be damage from shipping?

 By: Fastwong : September 7th, 2020-08:04
It seems hard to believe that a basic chrono function check didn't happen prior to the watch leaving the factory... Same issue on my Duometre when it returned from service, chrono minutes dial wasn't resetting consistently (yet the chrono minutes hand res...

I solved the problem! Our dear @Patek_ambassador, not to long ago reported similar chronograph issue, meaning it’s the same watchmaker!🧐

He needs to be retrained, or maybe he party’s way to much...😜 Glad to hear it’s taking care off!

Good that you caught it and great that it is being dealt with properly.

I have tried this watch on and it is pretty damned spectacular...congratulations : )

Good catch! [nt]

It makes me extremely angry that these stories are becoming more and more common with Patek Philippe. This type of thing may well be the true cost of all the modernizing and the building of “new manufactures” I love the brand, but I am beginning to realiz...

5 to 10 years later

 By: fallanden_ch : September 7th, 2020-11:41
It shouldn't happen in 5 to 10 years either. In fact, I'm against servicing a watch that's running well. I am wearing a 12 year old Patek now and there is no way I would send it in for service. It's running well, so no reason to have the back opened up.

I disagree

 By: watch-er : September 7th, 2020-16:17
These watches are made by hand, are shipped long journeys and things happen. What is the new norm is the internet where people just trash brands. PP and the AD made this right, never the less, now it is all over here as a problem with people thinking QC i...

Well, we must not be too quick to blame OR absolve

 By: vitalsigns : September 7th, 2020-16:55
Some issues are clearly QC related and others could be mere unfortunate circumstances such as shipping damage. None of us can determine with certainty whether this is the case in this instance. So quick to judge is not good, but nor is the fanboy mentalit...

Nothing in life is perfect...

 By: Centurionone : September 8th, 2020-04:28
The more complex a mechanism , the more likelihood of something going wrong. The important thing is that the manufacturer takes ownership and makes it right. In that regard PP is excellent.
