Hi all -- thanks for your comments, and must say I'm impressed by the pro-Darth consensus on the Patek forum. That said, I'm having second thoughts: as Clueless Collector says, the price asked here is literally unprecedented, and by a wide margin. My own market research bears that out. I might just be too risk-averse for this game.
An alternative idea (apart from just selling the 5711 for cash) is to trade it for a Journe Chronometre Bleu. Yes, that would be trading one overhyped watch for another. But the Bleu would solve the wearability problems I have with the 5711: tantalum is hard to scratch, so fewer concerns there, and it's less well-known in mugging circles. I've also always regretted opting for the Chronometre Souverein in rose gold over the Bleu when both were on display at the NYC boutique in 2010 (I no longer own the CS). The Bleu is more versatile, and the rose gold movement in both models is (to my eyes) much better-looking when framed by tantalum rather than more rose gold.
Any thoughts on this alternative?

I'd do it. Frankly, I think so little of the 5711 I'd trade it for a Swatch (if prices were equal).

No idea about valuations but the 5711 is unwearable (as you state) and therefore useless to you.
Makes sense therefore to me to leverage it into to something else. The Darth is a cool iteration of another iconic watch. So you still have an icon, but perhaps then a wearable one.
