Sure, certainly more expensive and also not as easy to wear in my opinion, on the other hand more original and summer-friendly... Here's a 5130/1R that I saw, not bad either :-)

Still any doubts that this is an era of sports watches? Well, take a look at this picture.

Taken today in Frankfurt, Germany. A lot of very classy timepieces waiting for buyers. Kind of sad. Best, V. ...

an eye candy!

a lot of desirable models on display i see. especially 5270p and 5524

and the 5230g [nt]

Indeed!

Glory days to get your (grand) complicated horology right now. New or old. I am not talking (steel) sportswatches. Social media has got them on a winning streak, for now at least. Best, H

The fact that these watches havent been snapped up

 By: Patekphilippecollector : August 15th, 2019-07:49
Before delivery reflects the state of the market. 5240 / 5930 / 5524 is almost like 5960 of yesteryear. Sitting st every AD in the world!! I knew the 5270P wasnt flying off the shelves but in a window display.....ouch!!!

As an avid PP collector, this is a sad sight.

 By: Langeholic : August 15th, 2019-07:50
I hope TS knows what he is doing as I get a feeling that PP have been overproducing over the last few years.

Weā€™re at a point now where whenever a piece is available some people are using that as a reason to disparage the reference - since it is available it must not be any good.

 By: BMR : August 15th, 2019-07:52
Then that same person will disparage the brand for ā€œplaying gamesā€ with other pieces that are unavailable. Itā€™s just ridiculous. Of course, this dynamic allows some of us to take advantage of the availability of great pieces that the market is currently o...

I think the brands need to create non-movement display models so that passersby can see the them and their presence in the window won't have a negative connotation.

 By: Tavio_George : August 15th, 2019-09:30
I can't believe they haven't done that yet. The models can be the property of PP and returned when they are discontinued.

Some Patek ADs do this already, I visited one just the other day in Milano. Some other ADs that I know even display their own (good) watches when they don't have enough supplies...:-)

 By: FabR : August 15th, 2019-09:47
You'll notice immediately these models since the carry a "Display only" sign and are normally set at 10:10 ;-) Of course, watch retailers are not the only shops that adopt this kind of strategy, ask virtually any woman who's trying to buy a nice bag... Ch...

FPJourne has done this for years. [nt]

I find every shop should have all/ most pieces on display. But display doesnā€™t mean itā€™s for sale!

 By: rip9er : August 15th, 2019-17:00
This gives the customer the opportunity to try on specific models and make a proper decision whether or not to order the watch.

Simple economics. Supply or Demand. The fact

 By: Patekphilippecollector : August 15th, 2019-19:18
That you cant get a Nautilus is because demand is high and supply is low. The factvtaht these watches are on the shelves means either demand is low or supply is high!! No doubt they will move eventually. I offered to buy the 5270P if they threw in a 5711 ...

That's sad but true

 By: benlee338 : September 6th, 2019-23:58
Somehow, whatever that is now on display are considered non-hot models where nobody wants, regardless of their horological merit, esp for those collectors that lean towards an "investment" POV when deciding what pieces to buy. In particular, I find the dr...

Did you not post a picture from a Nothern Italy AD window?

By: COUNT DE MONET : August 15th, 2019-12:41
There were quite a few steel Nautilus on display? Or is my vision AND mind blured?

Now it makes sensešŸ˜€ [nt]

Iā€™m surprised the 5270P Salmon dial is on display šŸ˜±

but I feel thereā€™s already people starting to realize ā€œvalueā€, by letting go of their SS Sports and trade with the grand complications.

Here in this forum, few members were asking...

If they should trade Nautilus/Aquanauts with something else with the high prices now.

When you compare list prices and those on Chrono24...

 By: Winfizz : August 15th, 2019-10:25
You understand everything! When you see that sport watches are far more expensive on Chrono24 than in boutiques and that is the opposite for the classical ones, you understand immediatly the structure of the demand!

I'm not really knowledgeable on PP, but I see four models that I'd rather have than any stailness steel sports Patek

 By: Indigo : August 15th, 2019-10:36
The world timer with chronograph, the annual calendar with syringe hands, the 5270P and the big-ass rose gold travel time. Sad to see this, I'd buy them in a heartbeat...

I am surprised

 By: baufoam : August 15th, 2019-11:02
To see a 5320g available at an AD in Frankfurt. I thought that was a tough watch to get at an Authorized Dealer. I waited over a year to get one in Beverly Hills. Thatā€™s a very nice time piece by the way. I have been wearing my 5320g every day for several...

it is available everywhere.

 By: Peter : August 15th, 2019-12:20
very recently i was offered a bundle 5711A + 5320G and agreed for the sake of finally getting a 5711A. i cringed about having to buy the 5320G but the total deal is ok.

i also saw it at an AD in Bangkok

 By: benzng : August 15th, 2019-22:41
i was just looking around and asking them if they have a 5711 (which they don't) but the display case had a 5320G

Strange

 By: Jurry : August 15th, 2019-12:00
Our watch collectors and enthusiasts world is a strange world. If certain types are unavailable, I read posts stating how sad that is (I recall a post week back when somebody posted picture of empty windows at the Rolex boutique). If certain models are so...

I wish that AD was nearer to me!

Iā€™d love to try to on the 5270P and 5320G. Amazing to see them out on display( even though they may already be sold/spoken for?). They were all available at Hong Kong greys a few months ago but so nice to see them at a proper AD. Means there may be some h...

In 1996 I bought my first Rolex which was an Explorer

Even then I had to put my name on a list and the watch took 6 months...

Wasnā€™t my experience with any Rolex I bought in the last 20+ years.

 By: Jay (Eire) : August 16th, 2019-13:22
And some were bought far far away from big markets / cities. Of course it must have been the case that dealers did not always or even frequently have a full line up in stock, it just so happened I was not really looking for things that might not have been...

Perhaps. In fact I remember that the AD

Didnt even order what they needed. A box would arrive from Rolex that had a variety if watches. It's for the reason that they ended up having too many of one and too few of another.. WoS even used to give you 100% of purchase price when u traded up. Good ...

Went to Bern yesterday, AD had the same lineup:
