Similar problem with my 3940.

Nov 22, 2020,18:48 PM

Works great. Even on a winder. But every so often, it stops at 11:25 PM. Stops completely. On the winder. Or, it stops for a period and then starts again.

If it is stopped and I take it off the winder, all it needs is a couple of turns on the crown.

I asked a watchmaker about this and he said that around midnight it needs extra power to turn the date, day and AM/PM register. He said it may be a transmission of power issue or some obstruction. Of course he said he needs to open it up to know the real cause. But because of the pandemic I am unable to take the watch anywhere.

I want to ask if there's anything wrong with my 5711

Since the pandemic, most are working from home incld. me, so not so active in terms of movement other than browsing, eating & sleeping (still lose abt 9-10 pounds), bit of walking only in the house πŸ˜† I have found my 5711 lately has been stopping after 2-3...

Are you saying that an automatic watch stops working while being worn daily?

 By: Lankysudanese : November 20th, 2020-23:49
That’s very unusual, indeed. Hopefully you have a nearby Patek AD with in-house watchmaker who can examine the watch

Yes! But it never stopped before stay home period

Don't think there's an in house watchmaker in Patek AD here, thanks!

Forgot to say, it stops and then moves again after

I move the watch

Your wrist movement patterns must be very different (from pre-lockdown)

Do you have a winder? That may be one way to prove that hypothesis. If it doesn’t stop after 24 hours of a full automatic wind, then you’ll just have to wear it when you run on the treadmill 😝

When resetting the watch each time, it continues to run

for a few weeks then it is behind, say 30 min but still runs meaning it stops for a while before my wrist movement reactivates it? That's my theory but I don't know either πŸ€·πŸ»β€β™‚οΈ hope that's the only issue, not the mov't. How do I know it's fully wound? 20...

I am just puzzled why it would stop after few weeks on the wrist, then moves again after

I give it a shake it. Maybe I haven't wound it enough with my activity now. I am trying to let it run and stop first b4 putting it on again. Makes sense? Thanks

I would take it in for service

I don't know what the problem is but that started happening with one of my watches. After about a year it eventually stopped altogether a donut was service time....

Ooh, was it a Nautilus/Patek too?

I will try again before deciding cause I need to bring it to Singapore service ctr and now we cannot travel overseas πŸ˜•

Looks like service might be a serious option here too. After thinking about...

My dad’s watch exhibited similar behaviour last year and brought it for service...was the winding mechanism...

Ok thanks 4 the info

Since I cannot visit Patek SC, will try to reset and manually wind fully and see if same issue after 3 weeks 🀞 If yes then off to SC

Good luck and keep us posted

UPDATE

 By: δΈι‡Žγ‚Œγ„ : November 22nd, 2020-20:53
I let the watch run till it stopped. Tried to reset and wind it for 40 times and the second hand wouldn't move if you tilt it to the right w/ the crown open, I had to shake/move the crown to move it again, clearly something wrong with the movement 😣 Have ...

Oh no! Probably best for service anyway! Good luck

My guess is your watch is absolutely fine and that your activity level is the issue 😊. Specifically, that with reduced activity/wrist movement

 By: patekova : November 21st, 2020-09:18
because of the pandemic, you on the cusp of the minimum wrist movement to keep it running and sometimes you are just under that threshold. I would not rush to get it serviced. More activity or just help it out by winding it a bit. Best, Patekova

Thanks for the tips!

Sounds similar although 5711 is different cal./simpler watch

Mine usually stops after few weeks after resetting for abt 20-30 min in the afternoon before resuming after I move my hand again. So far my guess is it is not storing enough power cause I usually stay home 99%, or there's really something wrong (hope not)...
