Review of all the novelties from Watches and Wonders with live pictures

It was a fantastic year for Patek Philippe, with the release of new references and the introduction of a fantastic new complication.

Let us begin with the new Calatrava reference 5226 and the new novel complication combining for the first an annual calendar with home time (dual time) complication, with the reference 5326. Bothe references for now, are in white gold. The cases as you are most likely already aware feature a unique novelty, in that the Clous de Paris decoration on the case band goes all around the case. This has been made possible by integrating the lugs with the case back. The dials feature a unique pattern- inspired by the cameras of old from Leica. This was stimulated by one of Msr Thierry Stern’s friends who is an avid camera collector. The ref. 5326 features eight new patents and allows the calendar to be adjusted from the crown- both forwards and backwards. The calendar is driven by the local time hour wheel. The movement uses the base calibre from the inline perpetual calendar launched last year and also has a platinum rotor.

Next, the updated world time models 5230p and 5231g. The references 5230r and 5230g have given way to the magnificent (and my favourite of the year) ref. 5230p. It has a monochrome appearance as the date ring has been done in the same colour as the centre - which now features the same guilloche pattern as the iconic ref 5110p. In my opinion the new aesthetic is absolutely stunning. The 5231 for the first time features Australasia and New Zealand is for the first time ever on a world time! The finish of the cloisonne enamel dial is like the 5131G. It is a sublime piece of artistry.

Green dials continue to make their presence felt. The 5270p has been updated with a new lacquered green dial with a black gradient rim. The pictures do not do this dial justice. Its breath taking in the real. The same can be said for the new 5205R, that Olive green dial is so perfect in that rose gold case it belies belief. Honestly this literally blows your mind- its a hole in one moment.

Time for fishing- lets catch some salmon. Lets start with the 5320. The model is totally transformed. Its not just a dial change- it really looks like a new watch completely. I can not describe how different it looks with the new dial. The rose-gilt opaline dial in my opinion matches the historical case much better. Then there is the chrono- once again its incredible how the new dial changes it- its a total metamorphosis and again it suits the vintage style of the watch far better. The blue is still available, but honestly there is no competition. The observant ones will see that the new salmon dial has new luminous dots at the 4 and 8 markers- this makes the dial far more balanced.

Finally, the new ladies world time features also an olive dial. Again a very attractive combination, that really works superbly. Its another aesthetic bomb.

So overall a brilliant Showing from Patek.

Best Imran

I could not decide between the two so I have placed an order for the 5230P and have expressed my interest in the 5231G which is an allocation piece of course. I will be happy with either one and ecstatic if I am allocated both! Nice write up Imran and gre...

We are thank you

5320G salmon is very “tasty” 😋 indeed ! Somehow I thought a new 5320 would be in a different metal and not stay with the G. Also interesting that with new 5230P, it has a different dial pattern than “basket weave” used in previous metals. Wonder why ! ...

Dear Imran, Thank you for your detailed review with the lovely photos.

Looking forward to seeing novelties, especially the 5231G soon. Besides, also interested to see the two rose-gilt dial references in metal, to compare them with the 5270P-001. Cheers, Henry
