"Careless" is an opinion...

The word "careless" is an opinion.

While I like my watches to be perfect and I would say even putting the polished side of the case on a nightstand is careless, that's not what HSWA thinks.

Basically, definitions are not consistent across the board.

What's a scratch?  I assure you, most of the users (except the lawyers) here could not define a scratch to a legally enforceable standard.

You're probably more reasonable than I am.  The point that I'm making is everyone has a different definition of "careless."  When a valet parks my car without gloves, I consider that careless.  His hands have touched a dozen cars, and his hands may be oily and sweaty.  And furthermore, I even use gloves when I drive my own cars!  HSWA is probably not careless.  But they treat the watch as a normal watch.  Not as a piece of fragile porcelain in a museum.  They'll put the watch down on a plastic or on a desk.  The polished hinge of a Nautilus is easily scratched, even with careful handling.  That may come back with some scratches.  And they'll just polish it up.  They'll even polish the watch sometimes on accident even if you explicitly tell them NOT TO POLISH IT.  It happens.  What are they going to do?  Replace the case for you?  You'll have to sue them before they do that.  HSWA is reasonable for reasonable people.  But for extremely careful people like me, nobody is perfect!

Recent issue with my Nautilus 5712

 By: icecube4000 : May 31st, 2020-00:08
Hi, I wanted to seek the forum members guidance on a recent issue with my 5712. I have had the watch for 16 months now and it has mostly been worn gently on the weekends, not more than 10-12 times in total. I have always remembered time setting on my 5712...

Hands down, you should send it in for service now.

Just take lots of pictures to secure yourself against eventual scratches. I wouldn’t worry. The horror stories seem to be the ones that are being told. You will be fine-you risk the issue to get worse if you keep using the watch. The risk of getting scrat...

Thanks

Curious what was the issue with your aquanaut? 5712 has a different base movement (240) to the Aquanaut (324) as per my understanding.

Service it ASAP.

Sorry to hear about your 5712. I have owned my 5712 for a good 12 years and wear it as occasionally as you and never had any problems with it. So far, I have yet to bring it in for any service. However, I can share my experience servicing an under warrant...

Fully aligned with others: send it for fixing the problem with no delay

Ideally bring it in person if you can to PP NYC or your PP AD if NY is too far but indeed take many pics and insist for describing on the service voucher not only the problem in detail but also the mint condition of the watch with no dings or scratches. L...

Is the crunch/click from setting the time because you initially tried to set the time around midnight?

In either case, send the watch back. Patek Philippe service will scratch the watch. Nothing is perfect. And while HSWA is very good, their employees treat the watch as a watch, not as a piece of treasure that belongs in a museum. The way to protect yourse...

Thank you for your advice, appreciate it

I haven’t dropped, mishandled or set the date/moonphase during the danger time period. The watch has been worn few times extremely carefully. It seems the general consensus is to send the watch in for service. Don’t agree with the last poster that it be a...
