Question for 5164 owners

Sep 20, 2018,13:27 PM

Do you swim with your watch? I know the water resistance rating suggests it’s OK to do so, and it’s an Aquanaut after all.

But that said, I am very reluctant to swim with any watch with pushers (chrono or otherwise). It’s trouble waiting to happen.

Its got no pushers and a 120m wr. But Patek says the 5164a can swim. So give it a try especially if its on warranty. My opinion. Just make sure the screw down crown is sealed down. Cheers 🍻 Geross

Only swim with a Rolex [nt]

If you can afford a 5164

Then you can afford the total loss of a Seiko Turtle in the event it fills up with water. That's the way I see it anyway!

I don’t follow your point

No message body

Well, I was hoping for more helpful input as my objective would be to swim with it, provided no issues doing so

Indeed, that’s the whole point of buying an “aquanaut”, ie a sport watch that can be an all purpose watch when traveling, vacation etc.

I m in yr shoes ,love the 64 and the new chrono BUT

Those buttons are let water in if operated(accidentaly)underwater,so i rather go for a 67 .

Don’t use the pushers underwater

I think it’s ok to swim with but to be safe don’t use the pushers underwater. I have an Aquanaut albeit without pushers and swim with it all the time.

Yes I did

When I owned one, it was my weekly swimming watch, as I wore it pretty much everywhere.

I used to, but never again....

this spring I was invited to see the Patek service center in Munich. On the bench was a 5980 that they where completely rebuilding. It had filled with water due to an unfortunate knock on the crown. I assure you that it was not a pretty sight. A lot of pa...

I swim with my 5164 all the time.

What is the point if not?! It is the most water friendly watch Patek makes. Never had any problem and if something happens, send it back to Patek. Watches are to be enjoyed. I don’ t mean to take it sky diving with you, but yes you can off course swim wit...

Of course!

And I wear it snorkeling. It’s probably my most versatile watch. If you are really concerned wear the watch on the left side, and wear it higher on the wrist so that the buttons can not be pressed. If you wear a swim rash guard wear it over the garment. C...

I don’t...

...but if I did and anything went wrong, I’m sure Patek would repair it. But then i would be waiting a few weeks/months to be reunited...

Just because we can doesn’t mean we should...

I have a 5167A and I don’t even take it on holiday! I guess I must be pretty risk adverse! I do take my GP Sea Hawk pro which is ideal for snorkelling and diving! Each to their own I guess.

Thanks for all the responses

I really, really like the 5164, and especially the concept of it— a luxury sport travel/time zone watch suitable for tropical lifestyle. Honestly, it would suit my needs/lifestyle perfectly. BUT if there are issues swimming with it (or even a fear or relu...

Here are some suggestions...

JLC Master Compressor Extreme Lab One... If you find one, then you will have to find a solution for the funds, but finding it is more, much more difficult than funding it. In the more accessible category, you have the Master Compressor Pro Géographique......

Nice group. And interesting. Thank you!

I will be interested to see what others come up with. It’s a genre that I think is, surprisingly, under-represented. Ideally I would prefer one that is one the slimmer side (and around 40mm) so that it can also be worn in the evenings too.

Hi!

I never swim with my 5164 !!! But... I never swim. At all. Hahahahaha On the other hand I cook with any of my watches 😉. And I usually am very careful with the 5164 as I am with a minute repeater or any other complicated piece. I am not answering your que...

Yes I do 😊

It's my summer watch and I bought it mainly to enjoy it during my vacations. So far, no issues. ...

I swim with my5167 all the time

Would hesitate to do the same with the 5164,Just because if it got filled with water I will have to send the watch and that will take not less that 6 months to have it on the wrist again !Long time Best, Ahmed

Wear it!

I usually wear my watches for the summer in the water which is not a problem but make sure you send it for a check after the summer to make sure its running well and they actually replace the seals and doesn’t take long eta 3-5 days

Are you certain that Patek would check seals within only 3-5 days?

 By: descartes1 : September 24th, 2018-05:55
The last watch I sent in for service took over 1 year
