Patek winder instruction help

Just bought a Patek 5050 perpetual from another forum member. It comes with a winder in a red/brown vintage looking leather box. Unfortunately the watch doesn't come with any instruction for the winder so I am hoping the forum can help me out.

At the bottom of the box is a latch which allows me to open the bottom cover. This gives me access to the battery and a switch which I figured out tells the winder to rotate CW or CCW.

And then there is the main access area to the winder. In this section is a black button and a light indicator. When I press the black button, the light indicator will flash green 4 times and the winder then starts its rotation. If I press the button once more and the winder will stop. What really stumped me is occasionally when I press the black button I see traces of amber or red from the light indicator. What do they mean and how do I replicate them? And when the winder is turned on it rotates continuously twice per minute. This translates to 2880 rotations per day. The forum archive mentioned the watch should only be wound 600-800 rounds per day. Is there a way to control the amount of rotation?

thanks
