Patek Philippe Has Become Irrelevant
Oct 16, 2021,12:06 PM
Patek has accomplished nothing much 'revolutionary' or new that is truly horologically significant in quite a few years imho. Perhaps this is why FP Journe and many other true independents are doing so very well. Maybe PP's highest watchmakers have decided to go out on their own or work with true independents to express their craft? Think about it, you can either work for a large company or go out on your own and do amazing work where your talents truly can shine and are encouraged. Besides, we all know Patek parcels out some of their work to others, so it should be no surprise when other brands offer....
Sorry and all, yet does ANYONE see ANYTHING about these new models that moves horology forward?
As a side note-ish, an industry bare minimum two-year warranty on PPs doesn't instill confidence. Eight years should be minimum as is normal with other brands.
Food For Thought: Maybe PP can start with an 8-year warranty and work their way forward into hiring talented creators with proper new movements that bring in amazing horological advancements as they once did decades ago when Dad was in charge. i look fwd to PP's next five years and see what horological masterpieces they offer under $30,000, and for under $100,000. Anyone can hire out master craftspeople and offer a $1,000,000+ timepieces, yet it is the truly talented that can make products like the Bvlgari Octo, and other interesting pieces that are priced well within the marketplace.
Bvlgari, FPJ, MB&F... and so many others have superseded Patek years ago. Since Dad left PP to the kid there's little to really admire from Patek Philippe imho that other brands do better. History has proven that even the old established Kings can fall from grace and never return. Let's hope new leadership and true innovation come back to PP before it's too late.
