Patek 2551 vs 2552 ( versus 3433 )
Sep 14, 2022,22:10 PM
Cosmopak recently posted his most wonderful ref 2551 with a stunning dial and a sharp case
Then Aperna posted his 2552 ( the original Flying saucer or disco Volante)
Oahu suggested that both are worthy and should hear in the same post
This got me thinking
What are the differences between 2551 and 2552- both have the same movement the wonderful ref 12-600 Pateks first automatic movement. Totally over engineered - much has n=been written about this movement . Specifically in the archives you can search for Walt Odett;s work as well as Michael Friedberg.
The cases are same but different
The 2551 has more soft lowing lines on the lug and the case but the ref 2552 has more defined steps on the case giving it a more rugged look
ref 2552 note the definite lines on the case
side on
The ref 2551 on the other hand has sculptured lugs and softer lines on the case
This has rare target sub dial
Both have two stunning features in common
The movement
ref 12-600
and the double PP crown
So what is the difference between the ref 2551 and 3433
Case is the same
ref 3433
But movement is the "upgraded" ref 27-460
cal 27-460
here is a pic of the 3433 ( same case as 2551) and the 2552 side by side
3433 vs 2552
Thank you for your attention
