Wouldn’t mind the new 5270J but this one has a special meaning for me my first PP celebrating and personal achievement. Also the first annual calendar from PP.

Opinions Please? Which Patek references look great with Yellow Gold case?

 By: Robert65 : July 15th, 2020-12:29
Looking to narrow down the field of modern (let's say 21st century) Patek references/models that look best in Yellow Gold case metal. If you wanted to add a Patek yellow gold watch to your collection - what reference would it be? Best, Robert

Probably a 5970J [nt]

 By: watch-er : July 15th, 2020-12:46

Well, yes - however the 5970 looks good in all metals

 By: Robert65 : July 15th, 2020-12:56
I thank you kindly for your response. Hmmm, how about a more modest reference somewhere between a Calatrava and a Perpetual Chronograph? Best, Robert

I know I'm asking for opinions...

and beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Just wondering if there is a somewhat widely held agreement on certain Patek references that are very nice looking in Yellow Gold

One of the best looking

Thank you for your input.

It’s subjective

But here are a few references 5070j 5131j 5110j 3970j Happy hunting H.

thank you!

So far the 5110j is the only reference in my price range - and yes, it's quite nice. However, it does seem difficult to love a yellow gold case (in a non-grail reference) these days. Perhaps in ten years or so, J will swing back into favor. But for now - ...

You may want an R

 By: Passionata_george : July 15th, 2020-13:45
it s timeless

Yes, R is easy to love.

 By: Robert65 : July 15th, 2020-14:03
But J is elusive. I can't think of any model range where Patek enthusiasts nearly universally regard the J as the best choice of the range.

Here you are.

Golden Ellipse ... it doe's exactly what it says on the tin

By: COUNT DE MONET : July 15th, 2020-13:45
No Patek collection is complete without an Ellipse. ...

thanks!

 By: Robert65 : July 15th, 2020-14:04
Timeless! ;-)

I am not trying to claim the Ellipse has become rare but ...

By: COUNT DE MONET : July 16th, 2020-01:18
... I noticed that since last year or so the offerings are fewer. I think people start to appreciate the value for money aspect of the Ellipse. It is Patek's slimest offering with a fine, fine movement at a quite "reasonable" price. The above said were al...

Many thanks!

 By: Robert65 : July 15th, 2020-13:56
Yes, the 5070 looks great in J - as it does in any metal. The 5110 however, is an obtainable and interesting choice that does look very appealing in yellow.

Good to see you updated your original question in the header :)

 By: Clueless_Collector : July 15th, 2020-13:49
From most sought after to looking great. I’m sure you already noticed most yellow gold references are the least appreciated except some advertising that 5970J is actually the rarest of the 4 metals. What looks best is when you wear it on your wrist and yo...

yes, I changed the question because I'm trying to avoid problems

 By: Robert65 : July 15th, 2020-13:54
You're correct in that it seems that yellow gold references are the least appreciated except in grail/unobtainable/prohibitively expensive examples. I understand that what really matters is what you feel in your heart when you try the watch on in person. ...

5231J

 By: Pretty Boy : July 15th, 2020-14:21
Best, V. ...

It’s a beauty but 5131/1P is a different level.

 By: Pretty Boy : July 15th, 2020-15:39
I never thought that I would say this since, as you know, I got 5231J before 5131/1P and I was deeply in love with 5231J (and I still am). But 5131/1P is such a stunning overall package (except for the clasp 😂).

In the future if G model would be produced, this J might be superior

Now THAT'S a beautiful J!

Yes, the 5231 enamel artistry very nicely tolerates J

I'm honestly not a fan of J gold, but I have to agree with other friends that, save some incredible vintage pieces, the 5231J is the first that comes to mind, even to a non-J lover.

 By: FabR : July 15th, 2020-16:19
However, even the enamel on the 5231J for me was not enough to convince me to ask for it....so I'm probably not the right person to give advice on the topic! The only thing I'd suggest you is to keep in mind that J gold, even if not very popular at the mo...

Robert, I'm going to offer a contrary view.

 By: sam1234 : July 15th, 2020-19:42
I will respectfully disagree with your principle assertion that yellow gold is somehow less desirable/popular, in most references. I assume of course we limit our discussion to "classic" Patek watches rather than less formal, sportier ones. I think most w...

The new 5270J is splendid. I previously owned a 5170J that was wonderful. The yellow gold has the most timeless appearance. That said, Patek rose gold is barely rose in color and more or less a deep yellow/honey gold, as opposed to AP and other brands

...and one of their more 'reasonable' offerings... ...with bonus hinged back.

Good tip

 By: Robert65 : July 17th, 2020-08:50
the 5227j is a value proposition with the hinged (hunter? Officer?) back as well as the Y deployant buckle. Appreciate your input! Best, Robert

Watches that really stand out in J, are the classics such as 5196, 5227

 By: WH_ : July 16th, 2020-00:38
Also i saw someone posted the 5035, the first ever annual calendar, which looks great. I'm posting its replacement, the 5146, also in J, which i think is a great expression of the model (the G is outstanding as well). All those 4 PPs are in the "reasonabl...
